I wan't to put a turbocharger on my old mazda

It's a 1992 Mazda MX-6 LX 4 Cylinder and I wan't to put This TurboCharger inside of it.

Would my tiny v4 handle a turbo charger? if so, is installation expensive if you get it done at a garage?

I'm willing to put a good 500-600$ down for this if its possible.

It'll handle it, but only to an extent. That engine in particular may only be able to run at 5-10 psi, which is pretty low for a turbo.

You should see some pretty large gains. 50-75 hp, probably. But in order to get the full potential out of that turbo, you'll need to do some serious engine modification (rods, pistons) and a boost controller. Also, be sure that your engine is breathing well. Invest in a cold air intake, exhaust and headers.

ok so the rods and pistons mod, what exactly would you do to them?

and whats a boost controler?

You can boost your engine safely without having to build the internals (pistons, rods, etc) if you stay at a conservative level of boost, like 7-8lbs. You can probably run more but it would depend on how strong that engine is, and how good you have built the fuel system.

It definitely can't be done for around 500 dollars though. You would need at minimum 1500 or so to do a simple setup. Most of your money you would want to spend on the fuel system (injectors, fuel pump, engine management, etc) in order to make sure the system runs safely and reliably. If you skimp on your fuel and tuning setup, it is possible the turbo can cause your car to run unsafely and the engine will blow up. I can go into it more, but you would need to decide how much you want to spend in order to get it done.

I would check out some forums online specific to your car and see if you can't find some turbo setups people have made and see about copying them. Also, run a compression test on your engine to see if it is currently safe to put a turbo on. A compression test determines how well your piston rings are and if it has enough compression in order to safely handle a turbo. If the compression test is bad, then you would not be able to turbo your vehicle.

You can't just bolt that turbo on and drive away. That's a freakin huge job to do a custom turbo setup.

It would cost atleast $600 with all the OTHER parts you'd need and that's only if you did it all yourself, which you aren't obviously.

The problem with newer cars now is that when you do a major mod to the motor, you ALSO have to tell the car's computer what you did, and usually have to upgrade fuel components like fuel injectors so you don't immediately blow it up.

A Supercharger would be a LOT easier on the other hand. look for M62 superchargers on ebay. You can usually get a good one for like $40 - $50. Check out my profile for pics
