if you use a proper percing needle you can feed the jelwery through the needle, VS a safety pin trying to fumble around and jab the jelwery into the fresh hole, with a proper needle its all one smooth clean feeling

+ if you use a proper needle thats been used say, 3 times, it sort of looses its sharp edge

i had two surface piercings in the back of my neck ("madison" piercing)...

while they generally reject pretty quickly, i had mine for about 18months before i finally had to take them out when i got arrested. If not for that, i'm sure i'd still have them.

they were done by a really good piercist and i was super-anal about cleaning them.. that's the only reasons i can attribute to them holding up so well. Lots of sea-salt water soaks... lots of dial.

a friend of mine that does piercings swears that they are still open, too.. but, i haven't tried jamming any new jewelry through... yet. :wink:

The neck piercing was the original plan, and I was going to chop all my hair off...but it's almost half way down my back now, and I just can't seem to part. Something about them, I find extremely attractive.
