I'm not going to lie...if I was in a room alone with that dog right after this happened, I would have done something awful to it. Probably just let it outside and hoped that it be hit by a car or something. I stayed outside after I found out, because I knew I would regret doing something like that, and my fiance put the dog down the basement so I didn't have to look at her.

That's terrible. I would have beaten the dog to death on the spot. I'm not saying that's the right thing to do, but I'd have battered the fucker into the ground. I'm really sorry for your loss. I hope it doesn't get you down for too long.

I luckily was not the one who walked in the room to see the dog on top of Commie, or I likely would have done something terrible. All I remember is my fiance screaming "BABY, OH GOD BABY SHE HURT HIM" and then he came running in holding Commie. His mouth was open, and he was bleeding out of his nose and his ears. He was moving, but just barely. I don't think it was voluntary. My fiance jumped in his car immediately to drive to the emergency vet, while I grabbed shoes and got dressed, and jumped in my car to meet him there. He called me before I even got there and told me he was dead. The Doctors said that he had for all intensive purposes died instantly, and probably didn't feel anything, which I guess is the only good thing in all of this.

Seriously, just go get another kitty and take pictures of him.  It won't replace Commodus, but you won't be sitting around missing him all the time.  It's really hard to be depressed about anything when you've got a new kitty running around.

And don't beat yourself up too much over what happened.  Sometimes you have to learn the hard way that not all dogs love cats, even if the cat likes the dog.  (I had to learn the hard way that cats shouldn't go outside at my apartment complex. :sad:)

You guys did try to keep them separated, at least.  Sometimes kitties just get into places they shouldn't (curiosity killed the cat isn't just a saying, you know).

We've emailed the woman who we adopted Commie from, asking if his twin brother is still available. If he is, we will probably adopt him. We'll have to wait a few days though, as he is in Tennessee, and needs to be sent here on a transport. (If he's even still available).

This is Commie's "twin" brother. I haven't heard back from the woman yet, but hopefully I will sometime soon.

I just found out that we can have him!!!  We told the woman what happened with Commie the other night, and she wasn't upset with us like I was worried she would be.  She said that accidents happen no matter how careful you are, just like what happened to her on Sunday with the recliner.  She said she would love for us to adopt Commie's twin :smile:  She's been calling him Cheddar, which I think is a good name for an orange kitty.  We'll see how it fits his personality once we get him.  I don't know when he can get here, but hopefully soon :smile:  This obviously won't replace our special little guy, but it will give us something to smile about, and give Max a buddy to play with.

Haha that cat looks like the evil twin. Orange cats are crazy like that. Either they're real good or crazy as hell. Good luck with the new kitten. He's a lucky cat to be one of your tribe. Never doubt that. Post lots of pics!

Thanks Blissed.  :heart:  I hope that Max bonds as quickly with his new buddy as he did with Max.  I never realized how much he actually enjoyed having him around until he hasn't been here for a couple of days....Max is just a wreck!  I feel so badly for him :frown:  We're probably going to have to wait until June 9th to get him, because he has to go get his shots, and be cleared by a vet to be sent here and given a health certification.  State laws and such.  It's ok though, we can wait.  It will be good for us to have a bit of time to grieve and process things and whatnot.

Im so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is the worst, especially in a way like that. I truely feel for you.

Its ginger for cats, not orange. And your right, especially ginger toms are crazy mofos. I've owned a few, and unless you neuter them they become evil beeings that rape the shit out of any female cats around and don't stop fighting. But then they come home and they behave as if they were still sweet little kittens.

I think that it was ginger toms are the reason behind "he's a big softie really" sentence that all pet owners use at least once in their lives.:)

Liz, those pictures of Commie smiling and Cheddar's big roar are just so priceless.  I'm so happy to hear that you are going to bring Cheddar home and give him a great place to grow up in.

You will always, always remember Commie through Cheddar, and I think that this entire situation really worked out, even though the circumstances are really shitty.  You're lucky to have both kitties in your life.  :smile:

Thanks Kel :heart:  I'm hoping we're able to provide him with a safe, happy environment to grow old in.  We're going to do our very best to keep him safe, and will probably be ridiculously over protective - but that's ok :smile:

I'll be sure to post more pictures of Cheddar when we get him here on the 9th (I'm counting the days!)  In the meantime I think I am going to make a little memorial collage of Commie.  Doing something like that will maybe give us a bit of closure, which we desperately need right now.
