green spot in jar-
    #697511 - 06/24/02 01:23 AM (21 years, 8 months ago)

I have a jar at about 100% colonization with a green spot! I will be casing in a couple of days. Should I birth and cut out the area that is green or toss the whole jar? Can it be saved?

Thanks for any input.

no one is going to answer to this thread, and they really shouldnt, but you are new here and that is forgiveable. i would cut it out and bleach dunk. search the forums for bleach dunking. to case it, especially with other cakes, and have it caontam all of them, sucks alot more than losing a cake. anyways just read read read! your answer is here about 400 times so it shouldnt be hard to find.

I appreciate you for responding anyway. I actually ran several searches on green contams and nothing would come of it. I will try the bleach tek and see what happens. I have some cakes working too waiting on some pins to magically appear. Luckily I haven't put all my "cakes" in one basket.

thanks again

well, i need to respond to you post...i too am a newbie, and have searched and searched for green mold also...and its not like i don't know how to search forums......i post to many others....

i will also post this in cult 1

i have fully colonized jars, one with pins, without the green mold yet, fingers
crossed....but the others show green mold either that have been overgrown by the mycelium(sp), or is starting to show underneath it.....will it be ok to still birth after they pin?
