Green spot?
    #1672234 - 06/29/03 10:18 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

My imaginary friend mr. tinkles has a brf jar about 90% colonized and a small green spot has appeared over one area of the mycellium. I'm pretty sure it is green mold. Other than that and some yellow discoloration the cake seems fine. Is the cake doomed by the green spot or is there a  way mr. tinkles can save it?

You'll know when you birth it. Cut the cake in half and see if the contaminant hasn't spread to the inside. If it didn't, then cut the infected area and make a dunk in a h2o2:h2o solution.
You then can work with the result as two separate cakes or better yet, as a casing.

Good to hear, I doubt the contamination is throughout the whole cake. What ratio of h2o2 do you use to h20?

1 portion of h2o2(3%vol.) to 10 of h2o.

Why not a bleach dunk of 200:1?

Wouldn't that be more effective?

Such comparison is not extensively tested but i believe it would have the same effect.
Also, you have to be careful with bleach, many brands come with different unrated concentrations. So it's more precise to work with h2o2 if you have never used some kind of bleach.

to safely use bleach, use the brand in hippies3 bleach tek
chlorox ultra, which is rated at 6% sodium hypochloride
read the tek to, very good info in there
