Legal Lophophoras US.
    #6899183 -

i need to know all the variations of lophophora that are legal in the US as im planning to have some shipped to me but i want to know for sure the ones i want to buy are legal.

they are not for eating so i couldnt care less about mescaline content.

also if anyone knows of a good place to purchase from (not looking for seeds) drop a link to me via pm. (DO NOT POST LINKS TO VENDORS HERE)- i have searched google havent found any vendors that ship to the US yet except one which only sells williamsii and i do not want to have something illegal sent to me.

so far i have found:

diffusa (which i have no idea where to buy from, incredibly rare to find for some reason)

Kohreshii (which im not sure if its a williamsii variation or not)

and

Caespitosa (same deal as kohreshii)

Caespitosa is a williamsii that grows as a cluster of pups.

I'm pretty sure kohreshii is a diffusa.

there was also fricii or however you spell it, looked even closer to williamsii with the more colorful flowers, much darker than williamsii though.

the gov recognizes 2 species, so label them diffusa...  even though legal, you may want to expect to be watched once they find out your growing them.
you will need cites and phytosanitary certificate and inspection.  it will be expensive.  this is why people in america grow them from seed   or just wing it and risk it.

This is something I've never really been able to figure out. In my estimation, Lophophora diffusa is completely legal. The drug law specifically names the Lophophora williamsii as being illegal, and the Lophophora diffusa contains none to trace amounts of mescaline. The remaining alkaloids in the diffusa aren't scheduled.

The problem isn't whether it's legal or not. At best it is legal, at worst it is ambiguous (and the case will be thrown out cf. United States vs. Caseer). What I've never been able to figure out is whether you can be certain of avoiding the trouble altogether. It would get thrown out of court, especially for the reasons that genetic evidence suggests the diffusa and williamsii are distinct species (contrary to the poor taxonomy the prosecution will pull out), the law is ambiguous at best, and the diffusa doesn't contain mescaline. But it's better to not need to deal with an arrest in the first place.

I doubt that your chances of trouble are high, however. There are certain American vendors who sell diffusa and diffusa morphs like the koehresii. I'll PM you with one.

so koehresii is legal is it?

im not too worried about being arrested as no trouble in the long run would come my way.

kohreshii supposedly falls on the diffusa side of the genus... threfore legal in US...
anyway just get the lot logged as "diffusa" on the paperwork if u intend to get certification for them.

ooo i found a really good place for diffusa up in canada, 55 canadian dollars for a 4ish centimeter diffusa, im gonna order like 3 of them once i get myself a prepaid visa lol. the only option i have now is paypal and check, but they wont accept either. they also have williamsii for canadians, but do not ship williamsii to the us.

EDIT: and they include the certification for 38 canadian dollars. this is awesome stuff, definitely goin with them.

oh and i had a question, i heard that diffusa cannot produce seeds on their own, they need both male and female, does anyone know if this is true?

Lophophora flowers contain both male and female parts. However I do remember reading that diffusa is self-sterile meaning you need to have two diffusas and cross-pollenate them for them to produce seed.

ok thank you, i will make sure to purchase atleast 3 then(just in case one may die), because i do want to end up with seeds eventually to grow some babies.

how big around must the diffusa be before it is mature? and do diffusa pup easily? or is there any easy way of provoking pupping easily?

i found an even cheaper place in the netherlands but they dont offer the phytosanitary certification, what would i have to do to have these plants certified so they dont end up getting taken from me by customs?

officially all live plants should have certification to say that they have been inspected and are free of pests and disease.
i never bothered personally, as most of my cacti came from within europe and certs are not required.
i did get some from china, and sent some to the US without papers and no problems.

talk to the retailer, see if they are willing to go through the process of certification, IME most probably wont be bothered.

rip off prices... im sure if u shop around u can find 3 diffusa specimens for that price... even if that means importing them from afar without papers.

diffusa are not self pollinating so u do need more then one to produce seed.

yeah there are only 3 places i know of that will ship an live lophophoras to the US, everyone else only has seeds....did find one in the netherlands for 27 euro i believe they were(which is the cheapest ive come across yet), for 5- 6 cm diffusas which is a way better deal, id have enough to buy a few T brigesii <prolly spelled wrong and T peruvianus which should complete my cactus garden for this year.
