Double boiler was a great idea though.
I had never even thought of it.. you would be there for ages doing it though. (to melt the sugar)

No, you'd be there forever :smirk:

A double boiler can't get over 100 degrees Celsius, and sugar doesn't melt until about 150 degrees C.

Well it could have been much worse the important thing is that you’re dealing with it responsibly. I'll never criticize someone who learns something from mistakes. Most of my best lessons came from royal fuck-ups so it would be rather hypocritical of me to point fingers; I doubt many here can't say the same.

I too don't think I'll ever grow out of pyrotechnics and rocketry either though sadly it is just one more of my hobbies that the government seems ever more intent on stopping.

Do what I did...find an equally dangerous hobby

I'm into high-voltage things as a hobby now!

That is home made

To my knowledge there are no companies and certainly no stores that sell high energy Tesla coils...

psilosibling: it uses a lot of electricity...but not a fortune. That one uses 26kW of energy, which is a lot no doubt, probably on the order of several dollars a minute.

Just for comparison...it uses about 230 amps at 115 volts, the average house has a capacity of 100-200 amps at a given time (you would be hard pressed to use even 100 amps at a time). It probably uses as much energy as 4-5 houses do in North America.
