You're right, it's not the same, things evolve. That would be like saying rap today isn't really rap because it isn't the same as it used to be. You can't hold onto the old days forever, and refusing to call what is now hardcore "hardcore" is ridiculous. I get the impression you're implying hardcore and emo are the same because you say the SG look comes from the emo look that is so trendy, but it doesn't. It's not even close. It comes from what the hardcore scene is now. I have talked to the people that were around when it was young, I've talked to Karl Buechner, the vocalist of Earth Crisis, which was around when the scene was young. I've talked numerous times with Kieth in Hell who, no doubt, had a lot to do with the way hardcore has evolved. I don't even know where I'm trying to go with this, I'm just saying that neither hardcore or SG are even close to being mainstream. Yes, people may know what it is (not as many as you would think), but in order for something to be mainstream there has to be a huge following, not just a large knowledge base.

that is why i said "as much as i'm ashamed to admit it". we don't always act as we know we should. and to say that you do would make you just as much of a hypocrite. and i didn't say i hate SG, just said i lost interest. although i've heard that the people running it are horrid.


I never said I dislike them because they are or are not mainstream. I actually really like to see the things I'm into go mainstream, I never understood the fascination with keeping something as yours.

no no, i meant for you to say that you always act as you know you should would make you a hypocrite. because no one does every time. at one point or another, we all partake in cognitive dissonance.

and i'm down with people reaching success too. but there is a silly sense of pride in the feeling "i knew [about] them before they were big."
