I have never in my life seen SG on MTV, and I watch a lot of it. Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's mainstream. Would you consider this site, or the interests of it mainstream?
Myspace also doesn't make something mainstream.
I guarantee you I could walk around campus and say "Have you ever heard of Suicide Girls?" and then ask "Have you ever heard of Bang Bus?" and have waaaaaaaaaaay more people that have heard of Bang Bus.

I seriously don't see how you can consider SG mainstream. It's based off of a very not mainstream culture (you into the hardcore scene at all? If you are, I'm sure you've noticed it isn't too popular), and the majority of people don't really find it too attractive.

i've been into the real hardcorepunk culture since the 80's. It is a small culture yes,but SG has NO part in it. SG is big in the HUGELY popular scene/emo bullshit that is has gotten so big the last few years.

i agree with you on all accounts captain. that's why i didn't really mind losing that hoodie two years back. i stopped sporting it because it became more apparent it was more about the money, less about the attitude - and, as ashamed as i am to admit it, the fact that it became more mainstream and less of a "i know it and you don't" thing, it became less appealing.

edit: except i've never been into the "real" hardcore scene. i just think hardcore chicks are fucking great.

You don't know the same hardcore scene that I know. And it's definitely not recent, and it has nothing to do with emo. If anything emo stemmed from it. Saying punk/hardcore doesn't really make much sense, since the two scenes aren't really too related anyway. We could argue this all day long, but clearly we're not going to agree.

SG is not mainstream at all. I complimented a chicks SG shirt once at work and she was amazed I knew what it was. She said that no one in our town knew about SG and people would some times ask her what her shirt was about.

no offense or anything, but ever consider your area may just be slow on the uptake of things? like captain said, it's been referenced on mtv, fuse, rolling stones, probably numerous other big name media things like that as well. And that was 2 years ago when i last paid attention to it.

I'm sure we could. One thing cleared though. I mentioned two very separate cultures: hardcorepunk, which i have been part of since the 80's (how is this "recent?", thats when the very name was coined),and the modern 'version'( i suppose) of the scene/emo bullshit that is so famous these days.

SuicideGirls is mainstream to anyone not culturally challenged.

Also, a friend of mine recently got accepted into SuicideGirls. 500& american per set (50 pics or so). Still fucking hate SG though. Like the fact that the models don't look like blond skanks, hate the culture/low res images/lack of good pussy shots.

If you take this recent emo trend, and compare that to SG, you will see they aren't related. I was referring to SG not being recent, it was around when I was into the hardcore scene, and that was a good 6 years ago. Now I'm not saying I've been around forever, but I do know what I'm talking about. Again I'll state that hardcore and punk really aren't the same thing, at least not anymore. That's like saying ska and punk are the same thing. I don't care how long you've been around, to say the modern hardcore scene and emo are the same thing is just wrong. SG stemmed from the more recent hardcore culture (tattoos, gaged ears, conforming to nonconformity, I saw these girls everywhere at every show I went to), and it is definitely not mainstream.

TRB, just because they get mention in Rolling Stone, MTV, or what have you does not mean it's mainstream. MF Doom, Mr. Lif, Akrobatik, Cunninlynguists have all been mentioned in various mainstream media sources, but to try and say they are mainstream because they sell records, are in it for money as well as art, and have been mentioned in said things is ridiculous.

I also hope no one in here seriously has a problem with SG because they have gotten bigger. I hate when people to that. Yeah, cool, you knew about them before they were big, but honestly, disliking something because it becomes more mainstream is so fucking dumb. What if mushrooms became more mainstream? Would you stop liking them too? Fucking hypocrites.

where did i say hardcore and emo were the same?....I say Hardcorepunk because that is what it started as,and i refuse to say hardcore as most people think of the modern bullshit that is indeed often twisted into this,also modern, culture of scene,emo kids, the gay ass hair, the gay ass tattoos,the tiny pants,etc etc...yes there is still "real hardcore" that is not affiliated with those shitty little kids, but if you talk to any of the people that were really there they will tell you,much the same as the people that were around when punk went through it's original phases, "it's just not the same"...there was a starting point and and ending point. everything else is nothing but a copy, to be harsh.


I do not hate SG because they are mainstream,please dont get it confused, i hate them because of there buisness practices, They sell models images,and personal information to second rate porn sites, they basically own your fucking ass and everything on it for at least 2 years after your Leave SG...among countless other shitty buisness practices. If you dont know.....this is not how the modeling world is supposed to work.

that is why i said "as much as i'm ashamed to admit it". we don't always act as we know we should. and to say that you do would make you just as much of a hypocrite. and i didn't say i hate SG, just said i lost interest. although i've heard that the people running it are horrid.
