Brewmaster: The band is Porcupine Tree.


Adamj: You should expect a harder sound to what we're accoustomed to with PT, with a lot of dynamic changes and a very very layered sound, and some of the best drum work I've heard.

I found it hard to find a lot of details at first because I was impressed by the harder sound but after a close listening I heard thousands of sonic levels.

The composition of the songs is mastodontic, with songs lasting 17 minutes, and even tho there are some points a little bit too caothic for my taste when I had already heard it 2 or 3 times I found myself expecting this part or this solo, etc.

Don't expect a lot of guitar solos and those that are there aren't that great, same goes with acoustic guitars. The ones that are there are great tho.

There are some songs with classic instrumentation to give the metalesque guitars some more melody too, and all of this in a dark yet lucid, wet sounding album.

I didn't get much into the lyrics yet, but those I could understand at first (My first language is Spanish) I liked.

As I already said I think it's the best sounding album in the last half decade :thumbup:

Whats with all the hype? I heard it thought it was pretty good. Thing is I was expecting at least a few decent solos on Robert Fripps part, and his presence was the only reason I bought it. I could feel his influence as a songwriter, but it seemed watered down to fit the bands need.

Well it isn't a Fripp album, he is just a guest :shrug:

I liked his work on this one.

Definitely spend the money on the DVD version, it sounds GREAT, and if you have a 5.1 system you can listen to the 5.1 mix!
