What a dirty player.  He blatently ran way outside of the base path and directly into Alex Cora's knee/leg to try (in vain) to break up a double play. I mean, I know the idea is to disrupt the play as much as possible, and running a LITTLE nbut outside the path is one thing...but this was just blatent, and dirty.  Looked like Cora had some words for him afterwards.  Anyone else see that?!

So, Cora comes up the next inning and whacks a triple into the gap in left center, bringing home the go ahead run.  I love it. 

Then Cora scores an insurance run when Crisp hits a sac fly.  Then Papelbon comes in to close out the 9th - I love it. 

I thought that game was a lost cause as soon as I saw Tavarez matched up against Halladay :laugh:

I don't expect players to play nice or be gentle with eachother, but breaking the rules and attempting to take out somebodies knee in the process is not cool in my book.  That's his livelihood on the line there, and that's shitty to do.  Regardless of whether it was a Red Sox player getting barrelled down on or a Yankee, I'd be saying the same thing.

I don't know why a general thread of mine that had nothing to do with Red Sox Yankee crap got turned into one :rolleyes:  I think it's a pretty legitimate point to bring up that running off of the basepath and sliding cleat first into someone's knee is not a cool thing to do.

If what you say happened is true, then I definitely agree. I, like OMR, have to see a replay to form my own conclusion. I just felt that picture would be appropriate to the direction the thread was heading.

And I've come to a conclusion today: I became a Red Sox fan because I used to think I hate the Yankee franchise. When I was really little I hated the Yankees, then I learned about the whole rivalry deal, so I became a Sox fan, first out of Yankee spite, but then it grew on me. Now seeing ARod succeed I've realized that it was never the franchise, because I have a hard time rooting against ARod. It's the fans. I hate Yankee fans.

And I agree, you guys should see a replay - I just didn't know if maybe someone had watched the game and seen it already. 

I guess Cora had to go see the trainer after the game, his knee is kinda fucked up :frown:

Liz, get over it, that's how the game is played. An extra 5 millimeters out of the base path is not so fucking easy to discern when you're running. I'll tell you one egregious play I saw was the cunt Rose plowing over Ray Fosse in the all star game. That, and fag Varitek punching Rodriguez with his mask on.

I don't care about 5 millimeters - I care about him running to the edge of the freaking grass to take a guy out at his knees, while in the air and defenseless. I'm not going to sit here and defend Tek hitting Arod in the face with his mask on, because that's not what this post is about. I'm not debating every unsportsmanlike play that has ever happened in the game - just a specific one that I saw while watching the game, and thought was especially dirty and uncalled for.
