Greenhouse questions...

I am in Arizona, and am wanting to start an ethnobotanical garden. I am curious about greenhouse operations. I am thinking of buying a nice 10'x6' portable greenhouse.

My question is this - wouldn't the temperature get too high in the summer? Would misters be enough to regulate the temps during the hot summer months (110-120 F)?

I think the temps would heat the water more than the water would cool things down. My suggestion would be to build in an air conditioner in the greenhouse, I think that would be your best bet. It would be on constantly to keep temps to a reasonable degree, but I don't see how else you would be able to cool your greenhouse down 30-40 degrees.

the heat would be ok if u are growing cacti i guess...
but living in arizona, buying a greenhouse for cacti would be kinda pointless hehe...

i dont think misters would lower the temps much either...

what exactly would u like to grow?

I'm thinking of growing psychotria viridis, caapi vine, salvia, and other non ethnobotanicals (tomoto, peas, flowers, etc.) etc.

I am thinking that perhaps placing a tarp over the top so it does not get DIRECT sunlight, in addition to misters, may help quite a bit.

salvia prefers temps in the 70's...
dont know how well it does in hotter climates, it would probably cope with high temps so long as the humidity was also sky high :shrug:

perhaps a shade cloth would better suit your needs? if you are dead set on a greenhouse, be sure it has screen sides and vents in teh ceiling!
