You also have to take into account that this is a very emotional issue for people our age because if you are college-age, this shows that you are vulnerable to this type of thing on any given day. It causes a good deal of emotion when you realize you're a lot more mortal than you thought previously.

I agree with many of the points that article says. But I still don't see why it doesn't qualify as a war. Why does occupation not fall under one aspect of war? I just can't agree with the whole occupation isn't a war thing. They are using it in order to win over more readers.

A war is fought between two armies.  We are not fighting an army there, we are fighting an insurgency.  An insurgency that is fighting because it does not want us there.  If they don't want us there, that means we're there all hostile like, therefore, it's a hostile occupation.

Well then certainly the Revolutionary War wasn't really a war, since the American "army" was really just an insurgency trying to rid their land of an unwanted occupier.

Just because they aren't an army of a country does not mean the insurgents don't make up an army. It might be a shitty one, but it's doing well enough. Also, I don't get the feeling that the article you cited depends on the whole "two army" thing as much as an occupation is different from a war, and I don't see that is. "In wars, armies fight to dominate lands." We can argue all day as to whether or not there is more than one army fighting in Iraq right now, but to me an occupation sure as hell qualifies as trying to "dominate lands."

And regardless if it's a war or a "hostile occupation" doesn't matter. You're telling me you were okay with it when it first started because it was a war then and it isn't now? It also has no relevance, what so ever, on my original point.

The only thing that bothers me about this crap is that it preempted my happy programming.

Now, if someone I was friendly with was killed, I'd still be upset about missing my programming, but I'd be a bit more understanding.

In real pubs, all matters of importance are talked about. I don't ever go to a real pubs that don't discuss real issues. Life generally isn't cheerful.

This isn't a "real pub', it's a virtual one on a site dedicated to the joys of life (drugs, food, sex, etc.)

Life generally IS cheerful! It all depends on your situation!

Take threads like this one to other forums more suited to the topic, or other sites altogether.
