X Box 360 or Wii or PS 3?

So, I got a big check back from Fees and Deposits from OSU, and I've decided some of it will go to buying a new system. I haven't had my own systems since SNES, and I can't decide what to get. Wii seems to have the potential to be great, but at the same time if Nintendo doesn't do it right it could suck. The price is another advantage. X Box will get Halo 3, and I've been a huge Halo fan ever since the first one dropped. PS 3 has the specs, but it's expensive as shit.

So what do you all recommend and why?

I am selling my Wii, keeping my PS3. Might pick up a 360 down the line. The Wii got old quick to me and was an impulse purchase I wasn't happy with in the long run. The X360 has/is still having hardware problems and is a neutered piece of hardware. Right now though it has the largest library of games and M$ is throwing their weight around. The PS3 is really expensive but so far I have been very happy with it and with the success of the previous two Playstations I am sure it will do well. Playstation Home looks cool as hell.

Nintendo won't screw up. They know what they're doing. Plus, Brawl will be coming out. Smash Brothers Melee is the best fighting game ever imo. I'm worried about what they'll do to Brawl, but I trust them. *nod* ..Anyway, if you like to play video games with your friends alot, I'd say Wii would give the most entertainment and fun. If you like more action type games and stuff like that, probably one of the other systems.

No, I enjoyed Tekken, too. ..but I love the fact that you don't have a set health, and you can always have a chance to get back to the stage and not die. Plus, I just love the way the movements in that game are. Very fast and you can get to be so fluid.

Good point. I just found the Smash Bros games lacking for some reason. It did rank 9th all time though below the likes of Virtua Fighter games, Tekkens, and Soul Caliburs.

If you can only buy 1, and have a gf/bf, roomates or party a lot, then buy a wii. It's hella fun man and lots of good games are already out for it.

I've actually put the wii fitness program into my daily workout now, I break a sweat. :smile:

I haven't played Wii yet, but it just doesn't seem to have the ability to put out innovative games like PS3 and 360 can. Sure, the motion sensing seems fun and all, but PS3 has motion sensing too. And amazing graphics. And already has great games like Resistance: Fall of Man and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. And will(eventually) have Metal Gear Solid 4. The only thing keeping me from buying it is the price tag, so I'll just continue to play it at my friends house.

360 is fun too, and has a lot of good games out, with Halo 3 coming out in the future. I'd put my money of PS3 being the superior system though, once it is fully utilized by developers and has a bigger library of games.

Christ I need a fucking life. :lol:

I've seen all three of the next gen systems in action, and I have to say that it comes down to either PS3 or Wii. Like a lot of people have said, if you have a bunch of friends that are going to be using the system, or it's going to see heavy use from more than one person at a time, go with the Wii, it's a better social console. One of the older guys in my fraternity picked up a Wii about a month ago, and it's always on these days, because everybody loves to play it- it's a lot of fun if you have more than one person. That being said, seeing a PS3 hooked up to a 60" TV with an HDMI cable... made me want to blow a high-definition load. The graphics are just out of this world. Plus, how can you argue with games like FFXIII, Oblivion and Metal Gear Solid 4? The main drawback: it's not really meant to be played by more than one person. Sure the cooperative play in Resistance: Fall of Man is fun, but it's pretty obvious that the vast majority of titles for the PS3 are going to be single-player driven.

The free online of the PS3 is helping the multiplayer aspect though. Fuck 50 dollars a year (X360) to use the internet I pay for already and can play free games on my PC and PS3.

Sony is doing some pretty innovative shit with the internet, especially in terms of expanding games with new content (something previously impossible for consoles) and adding extras that can be bought or downloaded, especially this game, flow, check it out here. However, I still think that in terms of getting together with friends in person PS3 has less to offer. I'm not saying that the PS3 has no multiplayer, but it's just not as much of a fun get-together-and-play experience.


Oh, and if you do check out that flow flash game, get ready to loose hours to it. I know I did, it's actually the result of a graduate student's theory on sensory immersion and its effect on video games. Very interesting stuff, and it produced one hell of an addictive game.

I have a PS3 and have seen flow already. Home is pretty innovative online as well. I do agree with you on the Wii being fun with a group of friends but I never honestly sat down and played mine aside from when I had other people over.
