Yeah and last I checked you can't train insects....

insects cannot be trained, but can be allowed to run their hardwired programs in artificial settings.

won't help us pollinate flowers though.

Yeah we just have to figure out how to pollinate shit I guess....

It would take immense resources to replace the work currently done by the hundreds of billions of bees(guess, no definitive bee census) worldwide.

My Local NPR did an hour on the bee thing on thursday. It was Interesting. I really like Radio Times

Description:

Honey bee colonies across the U.S. and in countries throughout the world are dying off. Why is it happening, why it matters and what can be done about it. Our guests are Penn State entomologist and honey bee expert MARYANN FRAZIER and NEAL WILLIAMS, professor of Biology at Bryn Mawr College who studies the role of native bees in pollination.

Sadly though its a two hour program and have to listen to hr one first. Btw, you can open .ram files with VLC media player.

Maybe I'll be back here too

I know, right? they need to stop this scaremongering nonsense.

my policy is to just not think or worry about it. cut back on wastes and pollution and the like to help the environment and make my stay on this earth slightly more welcome. but other than that, just live life and enjoy it. worrying does nothing but stress you out. so don't do it. just smile. have fun. shit'll turn out just fine.

seriously. it's all solid. there have been "signs" pointing to the end of civilization since the beginning of civilization. and every decade or so it's pushed back a few more years. it's all solid. now go for a nice morning jog and enjoy the tranquil earth.

We would lose about 1/4th of all the food we now produce. And as for people talking about the earth adapting, in case you haven't noticed, the earth's life support systems are failing. Bees are dying? Ya, well we have triggered the 6th great extinction. We are running out of resources, and our earth isn't exactly adapting. It's falling apart. Literally. The systems that make life possible, are falling apart.

This doesn't mean if we disappear the earth can't rebound, or that life wouldn't exist. I'm just saying that the earth isn't exactly adapting to what we are doing now.
It's suffering.

We should all be concerned about the bees. But this news is just more of the same. Opps, we fucked it all up. Opps, if enough people cared or were smart enough to see what's wrong things would change.

Boy, a rope and a chair seems more and more appealing all the time.

Certainly we're not treating the earth the way we should. and certainly we should change our behaviors so as to be more accommodating to the living earth and the other creatures we share it with. But all out pessimism gets you nowhere. worrying gets you nowhere.

saying that suicide looks more appealing simply because you think "the end is coming," frankly doesn't make any sense. If you believe the world is coming to an end, why would you not want to take advantage of the time you have left, enjoying the beauty while it still lasts?

The end has always been coming. Ever since you were born, it was assured that at one point, you'd die. Just because you know you're going to die at some point, doesn't mean that you should expedite the process and miss out on all the experiences life still has to offer.

Yeah. I mean, why even bother trying to make a difference? It's way easier to just kill yourself.

I was exaggerating to make a point. Seriously, no joke. I'm so far from killing myself I want to live until 100. I watch what I eat(lotsa mushrooms , veggies, fruit) and I am very careful. I'm kind of a nerd that way.
My friends that drink and smoke think I'm a health nut. I think they are foolish monkeys. But I still love them.

I totally agree. And I am enjoying it. When people say what's the point were fucked etc etc... I often point out that I'm not willing to just press the reset button and give up on all we have accomplished as a species. No sir.

:craven: Indeed. I agree.

I almost drown last summer.(well to be specific... my lungs filled with water to  the the point where I was almost dead, or at least unconscious and then soon dead)  I've been literally a moment away from death. No Spice. :noway:  And while it did cause me some serious problems for a few months. And it makes me feel a little creeped out from time to time. It was also an eye opening, almost mystical experience. It's pretty amazing to still be alive. That's for sure.

I agree. suicide is stupid. I was just trying to be dark and make a point about how bad things are getting on this planet. That's all.
