u can live something like 8 seconds after your head gets chopped off. Some guy who got his head chopped off asked someone who was standing near by to count the number of times he blinked. He blinked once every second

Hurt? I'd imagine its probably pretty painful. Or so painful that your pain receptors shut down or are flooded with something to compensate.

Weren't the newly decapitated sometimes presented with a view of their severed heads by mirror, before they expired?

Q: Exactly. For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you'd never considered. That's the exploration that awaits you...not mapping stars and studying nebulae... but charting the unknowable possibilities of existence.

It's probably creepy as hell though. If that blade's sharp enough, you can't tell me you're immediately dead. You know you're seeing something for that few seconds or so. I just can't imagine how light you'd feel... I mean you're just a head. You don't even have lungs to inhale so you'd just be layin there like, "Uhhhh....."

If it does it is not anything worth loosing your head over about.

I wonder after the head gets chopped off if you can see your body for a second or two and think, fuck I just got my head chopped off.

I always thought this would be a great way to die. You get have the experience of having your head disconnected from your body and as long as you are prepared to die I see no reason that it would bother you after you "die."

The guillotine was invented as a humane and painless method of execution, one that brought an instant death: could the inventors have been wrong? Plenty of anecdotes have been used by all sides, many of them dating from the French Revolution, one of the guillotine's most prolific periods. Scientists who asked their students to watch and record how many times they blinked (the scientists themselves being guillotined)

Like it's something you can just try out

All the pain nerves of your entire body run through your neck, and are severed with the guillotine.

My guess is that it is so utterly painful that you go in a state of shock right away, just like with long-drop hanging. I think the chance is remote that it is anything but very painful.

People can unknowingly lose a finger, but when you are being guillotined you kinda anticipate its going to happen, so there's no element of surprise there.

Why wouldn't it? Your body is being amputated without anaesthetic. If you guillotined your arm, wouldn't it hurt either?
