The best scientists are mad scientists

Mad scientists are just so much damn fun... and so is looking like one.
The hair is far from being untamed enough, and I don't think the stubble works the way I had hoped it would. But, meh... it's all good.

And yes, aside from the sunglasses and expensive collared shirt (which are just for show), I do wear everything you see while I'm working.
What I'd like to do is -- using photoshop -- add in a suitable backdrop which helps flesh out the image without whoring attention away from the subject. But, since A- I'm not a photographer and B- I don't have l337 photoshop skills, I can't really do that unless I were to get some help.
I think the contrast and brightness of the subject might need tweaking as well, and perhaps a mild blur would be in order to make the image a bit less busy.
Criticism? Comments? Requests for drugs?

So what kind of backdrop are you thinking about? A laboratory or something?

You should put a picture of a Tesla coil in the background. That'd go great with the mad scientist scheme. Either that or a crazy ass, over-elaborate distillation set up like you see in movies.
Out of curiosity, why the gloves? Are you working with very strong acids/bases?
I've worked with 12M HCl and haven't worried about gloves. I probably should have worn some though. I uncorked the bottle of acid and it was smoking

Are you a "technician" or a scientist?

I'm really more of a technician. I do pretty basic applied chemistry. I've not done anything that pushes the boundaries of knowledge.

I like the tesla coil idea
As for the gloves... yes, I am working with strong acids and bases.
Between the solid NaOH and the fuming bottle of HCl I don't really trust myself not to inadvertently remove my skin. Besides, they just look cool.
Now that I've gotten some damn sleep, perhaps I can do some better work in photoshop.
(runs of to work on it some more)

I just downloaded a copy of "The Golden Book of Chemistry Experiments" from 1960. Its a really rare, illustrated relic of a more touchy-feely era of chemistry. Maybe I'll orchestrate some mad science later today.
And you need some crawling fog in your picture. I like the idea of a tesla coil too.

You're right, it definitely isn't dirty enough.
of course, I doubt it ever will be. I wash it regularly, with liberal amounts of bleach and bluing to keep it sparkly white. I also frequently starch and iron it.
I seriously give my lab coat way too much love

I've made a point to never wash my lab coat. Well, maybe I will if it smells like ass eventually, but I won't bleach it.
Those stains are like badges.
