I Ching

I just started to read about I Ching. I found a site that does free I Ching readings but the answer is random, even if I type in the same question twice.

Am I missing something, or is I Ching just completely random?

i have my own books on the I Ching and i do my own readings and what not. its kinda spooky how well i do sometimes. ill post some pics when i find them.

How long have you been at it? This seems like something interesting, but it seems too random. Can anyone clarify how the results differ depending on the question? How does the question affect the process?

the book explains how to make ur own predictions using 16 marbles(i use numbered coins) or 50 straws(most accurate but can take up to an hour) or 3 coins(most innacurate) and there r other methods i dont remember. ive only been at it for about a year and a half and havnt even done anything with it in around 4 months. the question i normally ask is "what will be the nature of my day both in my relations with people and with things?"

a small question gets a small answer, and a large question gets a large answer. the question doesnt affect the process, its done the same way every time. sometimes u can read the meaning for the hexagram and it makes sense right away, other times it requires a deeper level of thought to gain understanding, and sometimes it just doesnt make any sense at all. if u r truly interested get some books on the subject, and learn to do ur own readings. with books and a little bit of study on the subject it becomes much more clear.

as i said before, if ur truly interested get some books on the I Ching and read.

Hmm...

I've looked at quite a few webpages with introductions to I Ching, but none of them address why we use the method of tossing coins or using yarrow sticks to construct the hexagram.

Why not just pick one? If the question has no influence on which hexagram is chosen, yet the oracle always gives a valid answer, then wouldn't that mean that all the hexagrams are equal in meaning?

I'm not saying I believe it either... yet. I do notice though, a lot of the people that do practic I ching seem confident in it. Some things require a higher understanding before we see them for what they are.
