I Finaly Did It - The Story of how i cut my hair.

My last barber shop haircut I remember leaving dis-satisfied. She gave me the haircut i told her i didn't want--standard boys. That was over 12 years ago; roughly half my life. Through the years I've trimmed it up every so often, but for the most part, it's gone unregulated. It reached my lower back, and I increasingly grew tired of the constant maintenance. It helped limit my shower schedule. I couldn't shower before work, or before bed. Brushing was consuming my time and energy. When it came to sleep, I was starting to get annoyed with excessive hair snags when trying to maneuver through my dream state.

I've had the idea for awhile now, but this past week, I acted on the urge to go short. I did it myself. I headed over to wal-mart and got a decent pair of hair trimmers for $23. I was urged to go somewhere and do it, but you get a man a haircut, he's got cut hair for about a month--Teach a man to cut hair, and he's got cut hair for life. I decided to buy 1 haircut and reap the benefits.

I did it. Saturday. It looks like shit, I fucked it all up. I should have listened. I had someone try to clean it up, but the damage was already done. My head is freezing. I even went from full beard to goat-tee. I look like a hillbilly, i swear; even some of the locals have given me the "hey" nod.

it's not that bad...


there she hangs... on the wall. It was fairly hard to cut through, that shit is thick... or, was. :-(

i've downgraded from dirty hippie to just dirty... or hippie; depending.

i didnt even know what style i was going for when i started, i just went for it... it's kinda the fade to short on top.

Do you have any before/after pictures of how you look(ed)? 

If your hair grows fast, in a few weeks your haircut won't look so bad.  You can go to a barber shop and get it fixed.

Every year on his birthday my fiance shaves his head and his beard off because the warm weather is approaching.  His hair grows ridiculously fast and every year when I shave it for him I marvel at how it's already down past his shoulders after just 1 year of growing. 

My hair used to be down past my butt.  I could sit on it!  My Mom wouldn't let me cut it because she loved my hair.  It was thick, a pain in the ass, and it hurt when she brushed my hair every day.  Finally I had had enough.  I took a pair of scissors, put my hair in a ponytail and hacked it off just below the elastic.  She cried for a couple of hours when she saw it :tongue:  It was amazing though - I felt like I had lost about 15 pounds off my head, and it was no longer an excruciating process to do my hair.

got some before, but i'm not going to post em... .

yea, the hair is suprisingly heavy. I picked up just the remnants after the bulk was cut off, and it musta weighed atleast a lb.

this one time, when i was about 9 or so, i went from hair that was maybe 3 inches long to a flat top, and i swear i could run like, twice as fast. wind on the scalp feels wierd...

I love the feeling when you wash your hair for the 1st time after a significant haircut...when you go to shampoo the bottom of your hair that is no longer there :smile:

I had some long hair for awhile, and then it was shaved off for a charity fundraiser at work. I went from having hair down past my shoulders to being shaved bald, and having it happen at work (at least there wasn't a crowd of people when it happened).

I don't think I'll grow it out anytime soon. In fact, I'm due for a haircut in like two days. :grin:

I've cut my own hair before too. It turned out alright. I had my girlfriend help fix it a little afterwards though. $15 is way too much anyways!

I'm probably going to end up doing this soon. My hair is really thick and I'm almost to the middle of my back. No matter how bad it may look, I want to do it myself
