Well Pro Tools only works with M-Box's (made my M-Audio) and DigiDesign interfaces (Like the Digi002... Pro Tools is made by DigiDesign). You need one of these or else Pro Tools won't even boot up... thus why you can't download it anywhere.

There's the Pro Tools LE (version 7 release recently, cool shit) which is for consumers like you and I ( But as mentioned before, you need the hardware in order to run the software.), then there is the Pro Tools HD for professional studios. (Forget about that, it's like $50,000 or something ridiculous)

the reason it's the studio standard is because Pro Tools HD is the only system that allows 64-bit processing (super good quality). Another reason is that you can make your pro tools session at home, and bring it into the studio and it'll boot up without any problems on the HD software. Vice Versa.

As for the actual software itself, it's great. It will do pretty much anything your brain can think of. I'm currently using it for my college course and I plan to purchase a Digi002 on Ebay (you can get em for like $700 US)

Another reason Pro Tools is so great is because of the keyboard shortcuts. Doesn't sound like much but it's what seperates the pros from the amateurs.

Pro Tools LE I believe allows you to have 32 stereo tracks I think.. might wanna double check that.

There's a bunch of other cool shit but that's pretty much what I cant think of off the top of my head. Once you learn it, you'll swear by it.

i should also note that the plugins available can be quite pricey. But worth it.

Also, if you're interested in buying an M-Box, make sure it is firewire. Firewire is key.

*edit* also, if using an M-Audio interface such as the M-Box, it will only run with Pro Tools M version.

Pro Tools LE is the DigiDesign shit.

Pro Tools HD is the HD system

there we go

Thanks for the info. I was asking because I just bought one (MBox). I got the PRO with firewire connections.
If I have any questions do you mind if I PM you with them? This shit is kinda complicated and you seem like you know a lot about it.

Sure, feel free to PM. I'm still pretty new to Pro Tools but my teachers are pros and I'm learning new stuff everday.

Better yet, here are the ProTools Forums
