I want to get to know decent hip-hop.
    #6663224 -

For years I've been saying, "I hate rap".

When, this isn't entirely true. Often I will enjoy the beat and the tune... But it's the lyrics that annoy me.

What I mean to say is:

Can someone suggest some hip-hop that is more meaningful than just "Skeet, Skeet, Skeet" and "Were da bitches and booze?"?

I've asked people before, but to me, Tupac is not deep and meaningful.

There are a few groups that I already know i like, but arent 100% hip-hop material.

Such as:

Beastie Boys
Gorillaz
Mindless Self Indulgence

Outkast Outkast Outkast

Definitely man. I feel the same way as you, and I am always impressed by Outkast's lyrics, rhythm, and syncopation. I also like how their style of music is broad due to their non-hiphop influences.

Good stuff.

I'm sure you've heard Ms. Jackson? Andre 3000's verse in that song is one of my favorites. Poetic and emotional.

Progressive hip hop....

Jurassic 5
Dilated Peoples
*Blackalicious* <----- I've never been into rap but after hearing one of their albums I immediately went out and bought the rest of 'em. Highly recommended!

Aesop Rock
The Roots
Mr. Lif
Platinum Pied Pipers
Nas
MF Doom
Common
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Insight
Immortal Technique
Hieroglyphics
Del the Funky Homosapien (member of Hiero)
Edan
Acey Alone
Akrobatik

There are a decent amount of artists there, but their styles cover a broad array of the underground and some mainstream stuff. I'm willing to bet there's at least one or two things in there you will like, and if you continue to listen to rap/hip-hop the others you will grow to like.

The Gorillaz best song is the one they did with Deltron 3030... or should I say the one that was one with him? I don't know how to reference a band that isn't real.

He's funny sometimes, but seriously, there's better stuff out there.

Definitely not someone I would recommend to one who is new to rap/hip-hop and doesn't really like it, especially because of general lyrical content.

Here's a verse from the song Murder Your Life by Necro, it's to the beat of the Dre song Forgot About Dre:

Stab in your face with a butcher knife
That’s really long, I’ll make you feel this song
When I beat you down to it, I don’t care if I appear wrong
Kid I’ll do it, I represent the death rap get your head cracked open
Till we stare at your brains, I don’t care if you think I’m insane
'Cause I take respect this serious, so if you disrespect you’re an idiot
Stick an ice pick in your neck, till you bleed like a period
Damn me kid fear me kid and if you don’t,
You will when I put fear in you bitch, bring it to you violently
Silently walk up to you, you have no idea its me
Rock in a mask, poppin you fast with a glock with a silencer
When you die its aids, Necro the sicko
Let go of my jacket you faggot let death blow
Die like a man if you can but you cant so you wont
'Cause you’re a male ho, yo I run this shit
Put guns to your tits, blast milk all over your cereal
Run your shit your clothes your shoes and if you refuse
Get your ass killed all over material
Brutal sadistic the only way to rip shit
Imma stay cryptic till the end of time
The only day you’ll be doper than me with a rhyme
Is when I quit this shit, it’ll never go down like that
I’ll still be around, from the ground I’ll rap
As a corpse the verse that’s striving to tell all demons on earth
How to survive in hell

Other songs of Necro include:

I Need Drugs (actually pretty funny)
Battle of the Cum Sluts
Eat Shit and Die
Live or Die By Skeet
You're All Dying
You're Dead
Whore
Huge Dong
Butt Plug
All Hotties Eat the Jizz

I could go on, but I think you all get the point.

I don't like hip-hop or rap in general.

Only Necro and Deltron, some Eminem.

Ever hear of Cage?

Him and Eminem had a "beef" over who pioneered their style of rap, so if you like Eminem I would think you would find Cage to be listenable.

Kottonmouth Kings are my current favorite, they range from hip hop to reggae to punk.

Tech N9ne is a little more hardcore but has awesome flows (listen to the song T9X its great).
