Undergraduate Research Proposal

Ok, so I'm thinking about doing this program at my university where I team up with a faculty member to develop a research project involvin research, design, development, or field study in regards to my major(s) (business management + economics).

Anyways, I write a 7pg proposal and my faculty mentor writes a letter of support and if the project is deemed credible and worth-while, the college awards $1000 to be spent either on the project/for other means (planned use of the award money must be outlined in the research proposal).

My problem is - I can't think of shit! I love economics and it is what I would prefer to do this project on, but I just can't seem to think of anything.

Anybody have any bright ideas that are AT ALL related to economics/business management that could occupy me for ~150hrs throughout a semester?

You could do a project on the economic considerations of legalizing marijuana. :smirk:

Economics was such a hard subject for me to wrap my head around. i wish i could offer a useful suggestion. this sounds like such an interesting opportunity though..good luck deciding!!

idk how serious FG was, but thats really not a bad idea.. as long as you have the balls... and maybe make it more about hemp products.. since they have thousands of uses including biomass fuels.

just an idea.

thats a pretty good idea. I would totally love disecting the effects that legalization of marijuana would have on society - but (you're right) i am a bit hesitant about throwing my blatant marijuana support out towards the proposal review board, which is composed of the dean of my honors college and a bunch of his peers.

however - that topic would be tight.

i think you missed my point.. dont do marijuana. that would be bad.. do hemp.. its not the same thing, and hemp has many many many industrial uses.

i knew what you were saying, im just not used to hemp. this would definitely be a good topic - i'm going to run the idea by my faculty mentor on monday.

If not - I'm thinking about taking opinion polls among undergraduate business students and doing an analysis on why nobody likes economics (even though its obvious), and then making suggestions based on my analysis on how economics departments can increase student interest.

i dunno - random thoughts, but thats all i can come up with (would be pretty easy too)

yeah i think hemp as a biomass fuel alone would make for a pretty interesting research project.. i did a smaller project about it for my senior paper... with hemp as a fuel the US would not rely on any country for fuels. imagine the economic boom.

but no, they want to be retarded and go with ethanol and wind (wind power isnt as stupid).. but ethanol is going to have more of a shortage than gasoline.

That sounds like it would be an excellent idea, I'm sure they would be interested in investing it if you convince them that you can generate some effective ideas that they can utilize for their benefit. :thumbup:

yah, i was thinking the same thing. Like - none of my friends like economics at all - but for some reason i love it, and i think if i were able to teach it and relate common economic principles to students everyday lives and social interactions a lot more students would have a liking/appreciation for the subject.
