Barrel Cactus

Im trying to get some seeds from a barrel cactus (Ferocactus wislizenii) to sprout.
they are in a pot with a plastic cover over them...
If they sprout Ill get some pictures and start a grow log..

Yes it is a lovely cactus and also an interesting ethnobotanical. I did some research and found that its needles were used by native americans for tattooing. The fruits are cooked and have a cabbage-like texture/flavor. The entire cactus itself was hallowed out and hot stones were placed in it to be used for a cooking bot.. quite interesting if you ask me..

i have a barrel cactus but it has yet to flower, if anything happens over the spring or summer ill let you know.

It's the same family but a different species Echinocactus grusonii it seems.
They both seem to produce akin fruits.

yeah the golden barrels are cool looking. They are more rounded (globe looking) than the fish hook ones. I saw a golden barrel down my street with a bunch of dried flowers. I may go to it one of these nights and collect some seeds..
