Tim Hardaway...
    #6578315 -

I'm surprised nobody said it here yet.

But this guy is a fucking asshole.

I hope nobody disagrees.

hmm.. this isnt going to suprise you, i dont dislike him for what he said.. he was the only person with balls to come out and say it.

i dont feel the same way as him, but i respect him for stating his opinion, which he is entitled to.

i gaurentee there are MANY players who feel the same as hardaway, they just wont say it because they fear what will happen to them.

lets not forget what LeBron James said right after the coming out. something along the lines of "its a trust factor, we are a family, if there is something you are hidding in the lockeroom, you arent trustworthy".. "its an issue of trust"

now i agree with how lebron stated it... hardaway slipped up by saying "i hate gays".. which was ignorant.. but hes just as entitled to his opinion as you are.

You respect him for saying "I Hate Gay People."

So if I said "I Hate Black People", that would be worthy of respect from you?

Wow.

Do you really think that gays are going to be willing to come out with the negative atmosphere towards gays in the NBA?

Charles Barkley said it best last night.. "I dont care if you're gay or not, and why do they feel the need to tell me they are gay, no one cares if you are gay"

I think thats the general attitude.. and thats my feeling, why do you feel the need to tell me you are gay.. that in itself is setting yourself up to be different, that's you wanting to make it known that you are different.

Whats wrong w/ being different?

Why should being different automatically make you a target of ridicule or hate?

There's no way that's the general attitude. In fact you already said there are "MANY" players who agree with Hardaway but won't say it. So obviously they do care.

What LeBron said has nothing to do with his stance on homosexuality. I think he handled it the best, he left out his actual opinion on how he feels towards gay people.

Man, you should knock your head into a wall and try and get some perspective on what you're saying. It's just fucking ignorant. "Setting yourself up to be different." Like we all need to live under the guise of some sort of vague notion of "normalcy."

Because it's human nature. It will always be that way.

no. fuck you.

im entitled to my opinion.. i just dont understand why, if you are a homosexual, why you feel the need to come out... straight players dont hold conferences and say "I like women"... why should homosexuals come out and say "I like men".. i dont understand.

im not ignorant, ive already stated my stance. I have no problem with homosexuals; and like charles barkley said "who cares if you're gay, i have a bigger problem when theres players in the lockerroom who cant play".. and thats how i feel. i dont feel the need to come out as a hetrosexual, nor do i expect anyone else to.. the way you live your life is up to you.

in a nutshell, i dont understand why people come out as homosexual.

when did i say that.. you really need to read what i say and quote me better..

again.. when you come out and say "im a homosexual".. yes you are going to be judged, should it be that way, NO.. will it happen YES.. my issue is.. why, if you are gay, do you feel the need to share that with the basketball community... i dont get it.. i dont care if you are gay or not, you are on a basketball team to play basketball.. if you suck on penis at night, thats your lifestyle, i dont care if you are into animals. just play the damn game.

Well my friend, the problem is not that they feel the need to come out, it's that they feel a need to ever have been "in". And dumbass Hardaway is a perfect illustration of why. Your imaginary world wherein homo or gay or lesbian aren't even words is wonderful but reality doesn't quite get there. I myself am totally fed up with those who flaunt their "otherness". It's a bore to me. And I felt the same about Ameche(?). But Hardaway is a fucking retard and the problem. And his Jesus can suck my dick too.

hmm.. him coming out of the closet is just an expression.. i dont see how that has anything to do with the actual issue.. im not sure anyone actually used the phrase "coming out of the closet"

im still waiting for someone to answer my question.. if homosexuals dont want to be different, then why do they insist on coming out and announcing that they are homosexual?.. why does it matter?.. my point being, why cant you be a homosexual and just be content with that and be happy with your lifestyle.. why do you feel the need to announce your lifestyle

in the case of amechi i think it was purely marketing.. hes retired, and never really was a great player.. and now hes making millions from his book "man in the middle".. i think he came out to make money.. plain and simple.

Perhaps it's because they don't feel that they should have to hide their lifestyle? Why should they have to? If a player wants to come out, good for them. The press conference is a bit stupid, but homos should be able to live their life without being closeted.

Re: Tim Hardaway... [Re: Redstorm]

thats what im saying.. im dont believe they should hide it.. but theres a huge difference between hiding it and holding press conferences and writing books about it.

IMO, when a homosexual holds a press confrence and "comes out".. its like him saying "hey i want to be different".. im just still baffled why, if you were homosexual, you would feel the urge/ need to tell the entire world... if you are homosexual you should just be content on living your life normally.. i think some people are having are hard time understanding my confusion, and its probably the way im wording it.

if i see 2 men holding hands walking down the street, i know they are homosexual (likely).. and i accept that, i dont look at them differently, i dont judge them.. its THEIR lifestyle... i dont see why they would feel the need to walk up to me and say "im a homosexual".. because either way, I dont care

I don't think he's looking to get attention for being different. It's important for things like this to happen because, whether you think they should have to or not, gays do have to hide it. By coming out he's doing his part to make it less taboo. It's going to be a long long time before openly gay athletes can do so before they retire, but people coming out (he's not the first athlete to do this, by the way) and saying they were gay is definitely going to help.

why though.. i dont get why its important for them to come out.. racism ends when people are "colorblind", no?

to me, when people stop caring about the sexual orientation of people. thats when they stop getting treated differently... just my opinion.
