Any serious muso shroomers?
    #6543367 -

Just was wondering if there were any musicians on the shroomery (violinists PLEASE REPLY!) who have experimented with practicing/reflecting upon their instrument whilst shrooming!

Positive outcomes? Negative side-effects? Interesting results? Or is it all too boring?

I might be planning on something like this soon but I just haven't really spotted any muso trip-logs :bouncysmoke:

Im a cellist dude.

Ive played the cello on mushies and simply got far too interested in the grains of the wood  Ive not tried any serious practice but that could be interesting... You a serious player? Im at college just now.

when i play guitar on shrooms, sometimes the neck just seems to shrink, and things click, scales and how and what to play come much easier. ive played better than i do sober while tripping shrooms.

other times, the neck can stretch out a mile and become putty, causing me to be unable to play 2 notes that fit together.

depends how hard youre tripping i guess.

jamming with a drummer on shrooms is SOOO fun.

Yeah, a studying violinist at a con. I was thinking that maybe a tripping mindset would lead to better understanding a piece of music, one's instrument and performance stress/anxiety/etc :discodance:

Did you notice any change in your playing after this? What did playing the guitar again, sober, feel like?

Jamming at home with the band on shrooms is excellent, playing live on acid is also great.

Indeed, for me tripping has been primordial in understanding some pieces of music and/or enjoying them better.
Also, I've learned a lot about my instrument and how the two of us interact.

When I used to trip and play my guitar at the same time I would notice how the strings reacted to my hands in a more detailed way, how my hand would have to move to get a sound, which parts of my fingers would create such sounds et cetera

After that I believe I grew even closer to my instrument, since our interactions were more detailed so to speak. I also learned to trust myself when playing and not think too much

I'm a guitarist and I've done a lot of this, heh.

I've found playing on the way up to the peak is hit or miss.  you can really be in the groove, or you can be just too distracted by other stuff.

after the peak though, i generally find my hands/fingers are much quicker, more responsive and more limber.  I have a theory that the body's CNS response to psiloc(yb)in/tripping is similar to the "fight or flight" response.  you aren't interested in sleeping or eating, your nerves are basically just primed to respond to what your brain tells them to do at that point.  this can be a great thing for musicians.

also it can improve my improvisational abilities, not always, that's also hit or miss.  but I have never been that great at that anyway.

the one thing I have noticed with consistency is the increase in hand/finger speed and dexterity post peak though.  I'm surprised I haven't seen it talked about more.  maybe lower doses would make it possible to take advantage of physical effects without the distraction of the mental ones, hrmmmm musical steroids.  anyone wanna run some tests ?

I agree about my fingers getting faster more easily while tripping, but the cold an shivers inhibit any good effect that could have in my playing

Now acid, that makes my fingers & mind FLY.

I've tried it with acid and a few other psychedelics, but I seem to get the best results from mushrooms.

YMMV of course

I just get too nervous and introspective on mushrooms to even stand up to grab my guitar

That's why I don't take them anymore, I'm pretty much obligated to stay put and look inside my mind until I start having a bad trip. Too much body buzz to have any fun.

Yeah, I've also found the come up on mushrooms to be quite 'hit and miss' for playing. After the main ridiculous peak (1 - 2 hours after ingestion) is amazing for playing. No thinking, no effort just great  I am also a guitarist.

Interesting! Thanks for all the replies so far! :peace:

Still kinda looking for a deeper look in how it helped you guys after you became sober. Also, did any practicing during the trip prove effective afterwards? :mushroom2:

while the mentioned increase in finger speed/precision is temporary, I think practicing in such a state is great for improving your muscle memory and refining playing technique, among other things.  not to mention, there tends to be an increase in creativity, you can come up with some pretty ingenious shit, though it's sometimes hard to remember it after you come down, always good to have something to record with :smirk:.

I think while tripping you can push yourself a little further during practice than you could otherwise go, and that will help to improve your playing, post trip.

if I am in the mood to play while trippin there is a definite improvement - exponential increase in fluidity, note progression comprehension, finger placement (I play keyboard), etc. I think it is in Aldous Huxley's Doors of Perception where he describes his ability to tap into the talent of the worlds greatest composers and musicians, artists, philosophers, etc.

i find a difference when im sober in how i understand the music, where i can go from the note im on.

Practicing on shrooms as in practicing licks or scales or riffs, i don't think would make to much of a difference compared to practicing while sober as far as speed and accuracy go. although speed and accuracy is heightened while on shrooms from the precog effects it gives you, but i don't think it will help your finger strength anymore at all.

the kind of practicing you should be doing on shrooms is practicing your understanding of music theory. not only that but to help explore the outside the norms of what youve been taught or have learned. to find the creativity of dissonance. Just practicing understanding scales and their relationship with the frets. kind of meditating on little things that pull it together and make the guitar less enigmatic.

after playing guitar on shrooms in a way where i wasnt just really playng or practicing, but studying it... didnt even have to be playing the strings, just staring at the fretboard hallucinating, understanding secrets to patterns and vibrations and cycles... i find that now my playing feels more fluid, like i dont have to think as much about where im going next, i just feel my way through, and go into autopilot. I think that also helped me be able to play by ear. i dont know when that happened, but im sure it came from understanding the music better on that level. you get more familiar with it.

this isnt just on mushrooms though... the same thing is really good on some MDMA or LSD. what have you.

anyway, those are my thoughts,
