Well since its just a "practice amp" then it really shouldent matter witch amp you get. Depending on what type of music you want to play or what type of sound you want?
Also depends on what type of guitar you play. For bass i would recomend a Masrshall bass state(B30). You can get it for under 200 easy if you look in the right places. For Guitar i recomend a crate, someware between 10-30 watts. Even though alot of ppl hate crates there still dependable. Really cheap too so you can save for better gear.
whatever you get just take care of it and you will be ok.

It really just depends on what you want to do. I have a Fender Blues Junior. A solid, clean, tube sound is what I wanted to start with. From there I use a multi-fx pedal to get the sounds I want.
I love Fender amps because of the original clean sound and the ability to add whatever effects I need to it. Maybe you could check out that new Fender digital practice amp. Musicians Friend is telling me that it is called the G-DEC. To me, the added functionality of on-amp-effects would be great for those moments when you want to hear a certain sound and test it out. Maybe use different equiptment to record or jam live with that sounds better.
Good luck, and remember to not let the constant pursuit of gear interfere with the pursuit of great guitar skills.
