Oatmeal Possabilitys?

Normall oatmeal(which is very cheap) can hold water well..so I soaked some oats...I got a cheap brand of oatmeal that says all the ingredints are is rolled oats..it did not mention any anti-fungal..or preservitives...anyways so i soaked them Not too long though then Let them sit and strain excesse liquids..the only bad thing is the can get sloppy if to much water is added..im still working out the exact measuments..now Im about to pc them and inoculate with an LC..any reasone my plans not going to work? Thank You

I've used oats before...i soaked them in coffee\water, simmered, then added vermiculite, it worked pretty good, they colonized in about 12 days. but rye is a way better choice.

Yeh, so i just inoculated the jars of oatmeal with some pink oyster in half of them and cubes in the others...I'll let you all knoww how growth goes..and i figured out a way so it doest turn to mus you simply use a spray bottle filled of water to moisten to the point that its moist put when pressure is put on it, it wont drip water(same as brf/verm mixture) anyways seems to be a cheap alternative substrate ill keep everyone posted..

I thought about using oatmeal with soil polymer crystals. The polymer holds a LOT of water (way more than verm) so just a little would go a long way and then I wouldn't have to really soak the oatmeal at all and there would still be plenty of water for the myc.

The only thing I would watch out for with oatmeal is if it started to dry out in the jar. If the edges dry it'll stick to the glass and you'll never get it out. Ever scrub a bowl that oatmeal has dried to? Yeah imagine trying to get a cake out of a jar.

Good luck with the experiment though.
