Mushroom expert wins national award

Dick Dougall, president of The Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club, has received the North American Mycological Association's Knighton Award, the highest to be given in mushrooming.

The award is named for Harry and Elsie Knighton, who founded NAMA, and is given to recognize and encourage persons who have distinguished themselves in service to their local clubs. Dougall was chosen for the honor from among 100 candidates.

The Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club will begin its monthly 2007 meetings in March.

Hmmm I wonder if there is a local mushroom club around here? There is a mycology club at the local university, but I checked it out and there wasnt much interest. Eh, Oh well...ill just be a hobbiest on my own. Mushrooms are just amazing, even the legal ones.

Check the NAMA website for a list of affiliated clubs across the country. There may be one near you.

Thanks for the link veggie but still nothing really close. Odd though, I live in the heart of the country. Closest to me is STL...I love mushrooms but not gonna drive 2.5 hours to talk to other like minds.

And then it takes a whole lifetime of shroom achievements to get nominated for that award.

Those are expert mycologists who win these awards. With this man living in Pennsylvania, maybe he was involved in the wholesale large cultivation of edible shrooms.
