Hampton University Wins Grant To Study Effects Of Ecstasy

(AP) - Hampton University has been awarded a $2.1 million federal grant to study the effects of the drug Ecstasy on the body, officials said.

The grant, spread out over five years, comes from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a branch of the National Institutes of Health.

Hampton officials said they hope the research will help answer questions about a drug whose effects are still largely unknown.

"There's a huge gap in knowledge in terms of why does Ecstasy do what it does," said Hugh M. McLean, chairman of Hampton's Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Ecstasy, popular among teenagers and young adults who attend rave parties, leads to the destruction of neurons in the brain, McLean said. Repeated users of the drug develop symptoms resembling those of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.

Hampton researchers will try to determine which byproducts of the drug cause the destruction of the brain's neurons. McLean said researchers might find a way to reduce harmful side-effects of the drug.

Its funded by the government, the results are certain to be biased.
Has the government ever used studys that had something the least bit positive to say about drugs? :nonono:

NIDA usually only funds research that is trying to show how bad drugs are, in fact I believe they cut fundings if they start find and anouncing anything positive about them. Thats why there are alot more studies showing harmful effects. Anything positive is funded by whoever pretty much wants to spend there money to get a study saying something good, which will still be high outnumbered by tests saying the opposite. While tests saying negative are funded by everyone that lives in the US, the government uses money from everyone that lives here. Obviously there are alot more tests saying bad shit.

If this doesn't show how biased the "researchers" are, I don't know what would. The guy is drawing conclusions without even having started the study. So much for scientific objectivity.

Republican Values:

1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you.
2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.
