Some psychadelic influenced artwork. To add color or no?

took about 13 hours, and is nowhere near done but its a start.. its on 8 foot posterboard. what ya think? would some color bring it to life?

It doesn't really look like it's meant to have color because of the time you've already spent on shading and stuff.

I like it a lot.  Do whatever feels right.  Use it to maybe bring out one part of it or somthing.  Update us as you keep on working at it.  :smile:

thanks for the input, however i'm a lil stuck on how to proceed.. which is how it always is, the difficult time demanding stuff just flows like water, then when ready to hilight or bright out other aspects that can totally change it to something else, a lot of time, too much is spent on not so much perfecting it but "not wrecking" its integrity.

and btw I have no idea if textures / shades / proportions are right.. so any input on that would be great too.. heck this is my first piece of art ever.. not counting grade 3 when i made a red handprint.

I think you could do something about the shadings below the mouth.

Thanks guys.. every bit of ego boost helps. So now what do you see in the pic? Did you see right away or at all.. the fish? the 3 snakes? I know its hard to see so small.. also the bird perched on top with the leg hanging over? theres much more but could not be picked out unless lookin @ the original 8 foot board

This fish is entangled and trying to bite through the main image. The snakes are running around the nose.. its weird i dunno what came over to me... I just had the 8 foot board left from renovation and bought some ink and charcoals and went to town.. I had absolutely no idea of what i was gonna do.. just consumed certain substances.. cranked some orbital and let the music move my arms.. with breaks to smoke :smile: and that was the outcome.. i can still not imagine that came from my mind.. im a chef for christsakes

the next one im workin on is a small 12x9 inch on canvas.. its gonna be a painting with powdered denim mixed in with various blues .. and some water to even it out.. its gonna be a knee thats worn through the denim.. so im actually gonna rip and shred the canvas so it looks like a rip in the denim.. then from behind i can either leave it empty or fill it.

no probs, thanks for takin the time to give input. It would really be a bad ego thrashing if my very first thing were to be rejected by everyone.. it'd be hard to recover.. so thanks guys very much.. this will only give me greater confidence! I wasn't even expecting to see any replies till tomorrow :smile:

alright it will remain without color (for now).. also does anyone know of any artists that do anything of this style? All i can maybe think of of HR Giger.. but his stuff is in a league of its own...

Ok I did a few more.. and what I'm going to do is get a 16 foot canvas and glue that posterboard in the middle, since its super flat, then do a few more canvas paintings like the other 2, and glue them around to add height stickin up from the canvas.. then on the edges of the glued on ones tey are gonna have a dripping ink effect onto the 16 foot canvas... if that made any sense..

BTW only Japanese character ink was used for the 2 canvas ones. and no color will be used..ever for that matter i've decided. Strictly Black and white with some strange twists I have planned. I actually had a little revelation that I dunno how I came up on it.. but when I put 50mg or so of powdered ENO antacid into 200ml or so of ink, the result is fizzy magic. Whe the chemical action subsides.. (you must stir while its happening or u get hard little globs) the ink becomes tighter and leaks less, and has a friggin brilliant gloss to it... heh go figure. So next step, getting the 12 Foot canvas. A friend of a friends brothers dads, dog sitter formulated a mix... an "illicit mix" of ink containing over 20 illicit and 15 otc substances powdered and frothed into the ink. Then it will somehow be worked into a image relating to drugs in society.. I dunno maybe it's a little overboard.. but remember I dunno what the hell im doing.. i'm no artist, least by not by definiton of merit.

Now a couple annoying questions if ya don't mind..

So what can you pick out of the busy smaller black and white? theres about 5-6 definite characters, either riding something, using their hands, or just partially visible.. maybe you'll find some more.. each time u turn it 90 degrees it becomes a totally different image..

the hexagonal one started with my hand print while wearing latex a glove.. I almost wish i'd kept it like that too.. it was real neat the way it dried after it dripped off on the bottom.. but I just had to fill it in... what can I say I love my darks
