Just rolled my truck on the highway
    #6416663 -

But I came out of it fine. A minor cut on my hand. I don't know if I was delusional/in shock, but I walked away from the wreck smiling. I didn't hit anyone, no property damage, but my truck was totaled. Insurance will pay for it. Etc etc etc...

Most of all I remember realizing I was okay. I was alive. I was breathing. And a sense of pure joy and love came over me because I realized that chance had it just well enough that it wasn't my time.

But little did I know that about a mile up the road 3 other gentlemen had just died no more than 5 minutes after my accident. No seat belts :frown: I waited for 1 1/2 hours next to my upturned truck because there were so many horrible accidents in the area there weren't any cops available to come get me. I ended up pushing about 4 different families out of the ditch because the roads were so bad.

During the crash, I remember distinctly, as I was rolling 1 of the 6 times, just going into survival mode. Bracing myself to lessen the impact and covering my eyes to avoid debris. I also remember distinctly thinking "Just do what you can do to get through this, and if you don't walk away, it's okay, because you did all you could do." I took the situation in and did what was within my control, and left the rest to natural occurance; and it felt surprisingly peaceful to do that.

You never know where death is or who it's going to take. Just do what you think is best in every moment of life/time and it will all be okay. If you die, you die. Nothing more, but also, nothing less. I learned tonight not to worry about a death like this, because it can happen so quickly you won't have time to ponder the "big" questions.

It will be swift, and you will welcome it.

How did you roll it? Were you speeding?

I hear that some people get hurt in minor accidents because they brace for the impact. I don't know how true that is though. Sound a bit like some bunk to me. Rolling your truck is anything but minor tough. You were lucky you didn't get hurt.

I know when I slid off the road one time in the rain (cause I was driving too fast), I braced for the impact and ended up being really sore the next day, even though I didn't get bumped around inside the car.

It's really not worth the few seconds you may save by speeding and driving wrecklessly.

To pretty much answer all those posts yeah, I was driving too fast. Under the speed limit, but too fast for the conditions.

I am a fairly strong guy so I was able to hold my own weight pretty well while I was rolling. The seat belt had a good grip on me, but the side to side action was what I was initially worried about so I made sure I was bracing myself that way (not bang my head into the window etc). And from what I can tell looking back on it, it really helped.

I basically hit an ice patch and ALMOST was able to gain control but at 60 mph it was tough to regain. No one next to me or behind me so that was good. Once I realized I wasn't getting control of the rig, I Just aimed it as well as I could to the dirt side so that I didn't go into on coming traffic. I was sliding side ways at the end of the ordeal and the ground was just hard enough to cause me to roll, so it gripped my tires and sent me down the hill around 6 times. I kicked out my back window and just remember feeling perfectly fine/lucky/elated.

Very sobering experience indeed.

add to that i'm also happy i drive all my cars really damn low.

It would take a fork lift with a fork as thin as a dollar bill to flip these old pieces of shit.

i've had a rear driver side drum lock up on me at 110mph in a '67 galaxy...that was a fucking experience.

I did it in a Ford Bronco II... wasn't wearing my seatbelt, though. I rolled 5 times and came out of the back driver's side window and landed on the side of the road. It was my first (and only) wreck... extremely sobering experience... whoa. I was so spacey for hours after it happened, and then, BAM... the waterworks came. It was like it just suddenly all came over me that I had survived. I'm one of the lucky ones... only 10% of people thrown from their vehicles in accidents survive. And with only one broken bone to boot.

always... even have a policy on my insurance that pays an extra 10Gs to my family if I'm killed in a car accident with my seatbelt on.  we laugh now when I get in and strap in... it pays 10Gs

That's the path I made while rolling, it rolled quite a few times. That sign said SLOW DOWN.
