Smoking in the USA

I have a question..
In America, if you get caught smoking a joint outside or something, and a cop busts, what happens?

In Montreal, they let you go with a warning.. is it like that there too?

no you will most likely get possesion of MJ, a misdemeanor in most states. Quite rare for them to let you off in most places here.

No, you will probably get probation (piss testing, community service+fines,etc)

depends on the cop.. ive known alot who will just take the shit,either a joint or small amout and just throw it away and let you go.. offically theyre not suppose to though.. so you could get a misdemeanor. and a fine

Ive heard from many people that pot is de-criminalized in Canada? Though Im not sure, anyone know? A few friends of mine have had run-inns with the cops, (I live in Ontario) and they just take the pot away usually, but that could be just because theyre nice guys :wink:

I think it has a lot to do with the cops attitudes as well as your own. my brother and I have both been let go while in posession, he was on probation and out of state, driving on a suspended license, cops let him go and he got to keep the weed

aparently a believable story helps too

canadian law says different, in fact the penalties are quite similar to those in the US

It depends on the location of the bust. Some cities have resolutions passed making it one of the police forces lowest priorities so you'll usually just have it taken away and given a warning. Other places the cops might lock you up or just let you go if they're nice.

It's bullshit. In my hometown in the midwest possession of anything less than 30g is equal to battery. I have known people to sit in jail for 1-3 months for less than a couple of grams.

It seems where areas where harder drugs (meth, crack, coke, herion) are less of a problem they focus on bust people for bud.

It is officially the #1 priority to bust bud smokers over drunk drivers. They do both a lot but they really get a hard on if they find some green.


You think that's bad... don't let them find mushrooms.

this regional. this may be true where you live but not here.

it is a fact that pot possession is #1 priority, in the county I was born.

they are cracking down on drunk driving more than they used to but there "marijuana task force" is still #1.

it is. but not my county. Is very big only an hour or two south.


i am sure it will get here but I don't know where to get to it or anyone that does it. (Not that I want to know) From what I have gathered it isn't the "epidemic" america speaks of here but I am sure it is only a matter of time.

I am sure it's here but it's not in the mainstream. In highschool I didn't hear of 1 person doing it. Not saying it didn't happen it is just not talked about. The newspapers or tv never bring it up unless it's a national show.

Who knows? It was just my guess that it wasn't a problem since I have never ran into it or seen it in my hometown.
