i want to get a really high quality one eventually. while mine has a pretty good sound, they flushed the termites out of it a little prematurally so it doesnt have as clean of a sound as it should.

mine is shorter and way thicker, the sound produced is not of quality
i think its mostly for deco, deep carvings on it (hence thick as hell)
helped me get the circular breathing down though
id like to get a real nice one some day

the shorter it is, the harder it is to get a good sound out of. not too sure about thickness. i havent had much experience with thicker didges.

haha yea i dunno if you can find em cheap too cheap. mine was fairly cheap as far as didgeridoos go, 110AUD, around 90 US, cause i sanded it down and painted it myself.

how do you make a pvc one? i thought you just had to cut a piece of pvc pipe the right length?

I have no idea, I just remember him mentioning his first "practice" one was outa pvc. If it's that simple then yeah I'll go buy some pvc and cut  it and see what I can do with it. I figured there must be at least a little more to it than that, but  I admit my complete ignorance on the topic.

diameter? i'd say around an inch and a half. put your mouth on it and judge from there. you want to be able to scrunch up your lips and have your lips completely inside of it. you want to be able to have an airtight seal between your mouth and your didj

1 1/2" - 2" is ideal.

You can also heat the PVC in different places to bend and contort it in different ways, to sort of mimic the curves in a real didg. But a straight piece of PVC works fine.. just sand the mouthpiece. Some people put beeswax on the mouthpiece but I've always just sanded it down and left it raw. Then you can paint it to make it look more "real".

Great to practice/learn on. And cost practically nothing to make.

Word, thanks bro. I'll have to give that a shot. If nothing else it'll be a fun craft project.

A PVC didge wont have the whole spectrum of overtones and undertones that a wooden natural one will have, but you can still produce similar sounds and practice the whole circular breathing thing.

I got mine in australia from some aboriginal people.  They were surprised to meet an American who could really play one

Jumped in a river, what did I see?
Black eyed angels swimming with me
Moon full of stars and astral cars, all the figures I used to see
All my lovers were there with me
All my past and all my futures
We went to heaven in a little rowboat
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

Its pretty easy to learn.. and its quite rewarding once you can start holding nice solid drones and create simple rhythms. I remember watching my little brother play mine and getting a nice drone out of it. (he was 3 at the time)

Thats great! Thanks for sparking a new interest for me. I really like that raw, primative sound. Might even build one myself and learn to play!! I've downloaded a few tracks from a P2P network... Gotta find me more of this!
