Benifit for the Dead Concert (2.23.1970) Audio Files.
    #6379693 -

I've been blessed with the gift of a concert from February 23, 1970, in San Francisco, CA at the Winterland Arena, in the form of two Maxell UDXLII C90 tapes.  I'm currently transferring the music from tape through my X-Fi.

The program I have for audio restoration is Adobe Audition 1.5 (though I'm not skilled with it).

Does anyone have experience cleaning up audio from tape (the clicking and hiss as well as the mono)?  If you do, I'd greatly appreciate it.

EDIT:
This concert features the bands Quicksilver Messenger, Jefferson Airplane, and Santana.

It also seems at the end of the last tape is some recording from another concert.  I'll dig into that too.

Regardless, if you want to hear the audio files, I'll put them up for download and such, I'd like to make a torrent with them.  If you want to hear them, speak up.

I'd like to hear it. I'd be interested in comparing the sound quality to what is already in circulation for that particular show:

I'll venture to guess that the source you have stems from the master real like the link above. Its lineage is: SBD > MR > Cass > DAT > CDR > EAC (secure) > Cool Edit (minor fixes) > CD Wave (retracking) > mkwACT > SHN (seekable)

You may be doing work that has already been done but it would be a fun project anyways.

And sorry I know nothing about digital audio restoration. Maybe the people over at etree can help.

Benifit for the Dead wasn't a Grateful Dead concert actually, it was a concert put on in San Fran, (As you can see the GD concert was put on in Houston, TX).

  No recordings of this are out.

Oh I see. Now I REALLY want to hear that! When you get it digitized you should put it up on bt.etree.org. People would be most gracious.

Maybe you can find info for improving the sound quality here:

I've got some good stuff going on here, but I need to figure a way to get rid of the hiss w/o losing percussion

The Grateful Dead weren't at this concert, it was the Benefit for the dead.
