How long after rain...?

I got a cow pasture scoped out, and it rained all day for the first time in a few weeks. Living in Nor. Cal, I hear that the pan. subbs will grow off of the manure.

Do I have to wait till the sun pops out to hunt for them, or will they come up w/o sun, or how long after the inital rain?

I wet out today, only about 10 hours of rain/drizzle/fog, and there was nothing. I flipped up some patties and no mycelium.

If it's been dry for a long time I normaly give it a day or 2 after its rained.

Im so excited. heh. Im actually goin to wake up at 4AM to go hunting tomorrow. Get there right when the sun pops up.

Panaeolus subbalteatus grow in the spring and in the fall months after the early spring rains and before the fall freeze.

Yes they sometimes appear in cow manure but you would be better off looking for them in rotting hay stacks in the early spring between February and the first few weeks of may. And you would more likely find them in rtted haystack which had been left out all year to compost.

I am afraid the Pn sub season has been over here inthe pnw and n. california for a while now.

It hasn't rained here for a while. I was all stoaked cause its finally spring, and now the rain has came, and that meant shrooms! Doh!

Hmm...Yeah I dont know any hay stacks around here. I was reading your "encounters of the panaeolus kind" today, and I dont know where any would be!

Hey, can you do a pronounciation for Panaeolus Subbalteatus? Is it: Pan-e-o-lus Subal-tea-tus or what?

Thanks for the info. I really wish I lived in Oregon and washington, i love hiking, and would love to go hunting all day for years...lol

say it very fast.

subbalteatus is from the latin meaning somewhat belted. That refers to the zonate bands of color which cirdle the cap from the outer edge to the middle and they change colors as they dry.

Cool, thanks for that MJ. Everyday I visualize them in my mind, visualizing myself walking upon a nice big patch of them. Visualzing and saying the word in my head over and over, never to really come to the conclusion how to acutally say the word..lol

Well I woke up at 5AM, got to the field by 5:15, it was still pretty dark out. Walked around till about 6, when the sun came out, and didnt find shit for shrooms. The pasture is pretty fucking big, so they coulda been there somewher,e just not the places I look.

I found one mushroom. It was stalky, white stem about 3 inches in height, and the cap was white as well and about 3 inches accross. Didnt want to pick the poor little guy so I didnt get a spore print or anything.
