Its a big gamble. But if he's as good as some people seem to think he is....

Word is though, that he's only going to agree to a 2 or 3 year contract, so he can go to free agency again if he turns out to be just THAT good.

I believe it has been announced that the Sox "won" that lottery. Strong reports on ESPN radio are that it was around $50M. If they negotiate a deal for say 3 years at $40M the Sox will have paid $30M a year for a pitcher WHO HAS NEVER FACED MAJOR LEAGUE HITTING. 3 at 30 is $27M per. This is for a PITCHER with huge mileage on his arm and absolutely zero track record in the major leagues. I hope they get him . And JD Drew. They will be crippled for years.

Get him, and trade him for more players that fulfill your teams needs. The Red Sox need a bit more than just one pitcher to make a serious run at another W.S.

My wish has come true. Apparently the reports are that DM got a 52 to 60 million contract for 6 years. That puts his total cost at 103 to 111 M. 6 years is a long contract for a pitcher. Any pitcher. For one who's never gotten a single major league hitter out it's nuts. Or brilliant. Time will tell. And JD Drew? 5 years for 70 for a pretty mediocre RF who just turned 31. So, for the next 5 years the Red Sox will be paying 51 to Japan, 40 plus to the pitcher and 70 to Drew for a grand total of 161 million, or roughly 32 million per year for two players of highly suspect ability. My cock swells. Liz? Liz? Are you alright? Somebody please call Liz and make sure she hasn't done anything too extreme.

Oh wait, it gets better, they also paid, giggle, Julio Lugo (31 year old SS with declining speed and very little pop) 36 for 4 (or 45 for 5). That's 41 million a year for 3 suspects. Can you say 4th place? Nah, that's probably too much to ask. The Orioles are still owned by Angelos.

I'm here.

This whole fucking off season has been ridiculous. $70 million for JD fucking Drew, who has underperformed his whole damn career - then Lugo, when we already had a solid fielder in Gonzalez...and now this fucking bullshit. $52 million dollars for 6 years. For a pitcher, who like you said, has never struck out a major league batter. Who has been a work horse, regularly throwing over 150+ pitches in a game. Risky, and like someone else mentioned, we need more than 1 pitcher to make a good playoff run. Schilling is old, Papelbon is not a proven starter (yet), Tavarez looks like someone lit him on fire, and don't even fucking get me started on Beckett. Fuck.

And a closer? Anyone think we MIGHT need a closer? We have too many outfielders now, since it doesn't look like Manny's going anywhere...Crisp, Willy Mo Shitglove, JD $70million Drew and Manny. Oh and Gagne, who can play pretty much anywhere I guess. I think we'll trade someone for a closer. Or who knows, maybe we'll find another unproven player and throw a ton of fucking money at him to come throw at Fenway.

All I have to say is, Gil Meche got signed to a $55 million dollar deal. That's a million for every one of his career wins. This off season has been a fucking joke.
