Is this book really worth reading? I know that some of my favorite musicians were exposed to these very teaching even before they became big and am wondering if I should venture into something like this?
Could anybody suggest other trip-related books?

I've used and given away a good number of BE HERE NOW copies for almost 30 years. As a manual. it is unsurpassable for realizing the highest Truth, via the Psychedelic Experience. Incidentally, my copy of the Psychedelic Experience has two autographs of Tim Leary - 20 years apart. Compared to BE HERE NOW, it is more valuable as a collector's item than a guide in 2002 - IMHO.

our pet long-haired physics professor brought his copy of _the psychedelic experience_ to a winterstar festival (atwood ski lodge/february) a couple years ago to have it signed by ralph metzner (it had already been signed by leary & by alpert...) & set it down someplace for a minute --- aaarrrgggghhhhhh --- it apparently grew legs and walked away (ummmm sticky fingers??? ) ... back in the late 80s i got tim to sign my copy of _psychedelic prayers_ mmmmkay.. ~ ummmm, yeah... there is some useful advice in _the psychedelic experience_ but it has always felt sort of ummmm, i dunno, a "force fit" maybe ? groundbreaking for its time, i suppose, but, maybe, not always a perfect match for what the tripper is "actually" going through... & yah, BE HERE NOW is possibly more useful (and certainly more personal, heh... the drawing of all those books on "ego, me, myself, & i, etcetc... is still hilariously true in some sense, false in some sense... ...)(i must be "on" my 6th or 8th copy by now..) so, any other like totally useful trip manuals out there, folks?

Yea, I found a electronic copy (HTML). If I ever feel like sitting in front of the computer for that long then i'll read it.

In reply to:
Any other good books by Timothy Leary?
The politics of exstasy was the only Leary book I enjoyed reading. It has excellent case studies, eg. giving 50 people psilocybin and 50 people a placebo, in a church and seeing how many had a religous experience.
The psychedelic experience is a western interpretation of the Tibetan book of the dead, quite difficult to follow.
Good luck

Huston Smith wrote about "The Good Friday Experiment" in his book Cleansings the Doors of Perception. I found that book to be very good also.
The Good Friday Experiment is something I would like to do in the future.
