So the Cubs are more or less the Yankees now?
    #6317846 -

I'm not sure how to feel about my favorite teams recent spending sprees...

138 million for Sori.
100 million for A-Ram
40 million for Jason Schmidt
20 million for DeRosa
Plus throwing money at Wood again.

I mean, I understand you have to spend money to be a contender, but who's minding the checkbook? These are some monster deals to mediocre talent. I'm sorry, but theres no way Aramis gets that kind of money. And if we actually sign Jason Schmidt for 12 million a year (The offer is on the table!), we should be drug out behind the woodpile and shot.

I guess its better than paying 50 million for some Jap, but geez....

Baseball players making that much money is retarded on levels I can't even comprehend.

Baseball isn't even a sport

I'm not even going to comment on that.

The Tribune is pumping money into the Cubs to make them more attractive on the market if they decide to sell the team. They are spending money to make money. A last place team in a weak division would not fetch as much as a playoff team. Hendry is also determined to win in order to save his job.

hahaha I have always called the Cardinals the Red Sox of the National League, so I guess now the Cubs really are their division rival Yankees equivalent.  Good - I've always had notions of moving to Chicago and rooting for the Cubs, now I can feel even more at home if that ever happens.

You might not be happy with the spending, but are you happy with what you got?  Soriano is going to make mincemeat of Wrigley Field, and he's going to enjoy playing in a big city market, he loved New York and he will love Chicago.  They're denying that they were offering Schmidt three years for 45 mil now, by the way...

In Yankees news though, we won the bidding for Kei Igawa. Makes me sad, because I take it as a sign that the Yankees brass isn't optimistic about nabbing Barry Zito, who will probably end up a Met.

Few things...

Like I said, i shouldnt be complaining because I'm really not UNhappy. I love the Soriano deal, and I'm happy to have Aramis back, and I think we have a chance at really putting something together this year. I guess its just a bit of sticker shock. But alot of other teams got worse deals than the Cubs did, even if they paid less. I'd rather pay Soriano 130 million than Carlos Lee 100 million. Thats total insanity.

And that Dodgers deal to Juan Pierre is Ginormous as well.

You would have really liked Zito? I was hoping the Cubs dont sign him. He just doesnt seem all that GOOD to me. Sure, he was pretty good during the regular season, but his playoff performance sucked. And isnt that what you guys pride yourselves on, is your play when it counts?

That said, come to Chicago sometime and we'll catch a game at Wrigley. We have alot of Jews here, you'd fit right in. And you can try some real pizza...

I really love Zito. His curveball is a thing of utter beauty, and if he ends up a Met, I will be watching 30 or so more Met games next season, because I enjoy watching him that much. We need a shutdown lefty, Randy Johnson is not that. So hopefully we do nab Pettitte. And yeah...Zito's playoff performance wasn't so hot in his second go-around but he did outduel Santana for his first matchup - no small feat. I hope he stays in the AL, at least.

OMG.

As opposed to a wussy little piece of crust with a tiny bit of cheese on top?

Totally ghey.

chicago style owns ny style. better value, more delicious, and more filling. the only think ny style has going for it is the convenience of eating. with chicago style, you'll need a fork and a plate.

For sure, I fail to see how anyone could knock chicago deep-dish pizza.

Like, 6 inches of cheese? An inch thick sausage patty layed over the whole thing?

C'mon...

That's not pizza, that's a monstrosity. Pizza is something you pay $1.75 for and eat while walking down the street.
