seems eager to make the first suggestion. Would anyone be opposed if we just let him?

PGF and suggestions don't have a good track record of going well together.
Here are five books, all available in paperback, and can be found in most used book stores. They all run the gamut of history, literature, journalism, art, and fiction in one form or another. Here they are.

Generation X: Douglas Coupland
A Drinking Life: Pete Hamill
The Artist's Way: Julia Cameron
Hells Angels: Hunter S. Thompson
Den Of Thieves: James B Stewart

These are all pretty common books, but they all make a strong social and cultural statement. These are my first pics. I'm sure other people will have their own opinions.
If you have never heard of these books or their authors, please do a Google search on them to get a better idea of what they are about before you vote.

Thompson's Hell's Angels was an awesome book! An excellent and entertaining portrait of a subculture. There was an overlap with parts of Wolfe's Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, too, (when the Angels meet the Pranksters) which was another great look at a subculture - the Bay Area psychedelic scene - and which itself had another overlap (Neal Cassady) to Kerouac's On the Road. Synchronicity!

You are probably right about not everyone being interested in reading the same material and all that. Still, I think it's worth a shot.

I think what I'll do is make a poll of all the suggestions in a couple of days.

Everyone who makes a suggestion should include something about the book.

If you want your book to be voted on, start a thread "Suggestion: <book title>" and in the thread, give a brief plot summary maybe or whatever you think will make people like it, so we can all get familiar with these works before voting.

not to toot my own horn here comic kid, but I have degrees in literature and have taught literature. As a teacher, I often lead discusion in literary works.

I don't really undertand why you would bring troubles from OTD to a new, serious forum. It's a bit childish, but if you are going to be that guy, so be it. I do not want a part.

I am interested in helping this forum develop and grow. THis is not a popularity contest, this is a book club; please act accordingly.
