Finally got a DVD-RW drive.

Up until now, I've only had a CD-R drive, and it was a real bitch backing up files. I either archived them on the hard drive and had to regularly choose which ones I could delete to make space, or I compressed them into several pieces small enough to be burned on a series of CD's.

Now I can finally just burn whole files to a DVD when I need to back them up without sucking up space on my HD.

A year or so ago, I would find it shocking to think that a 70 gig main HD and a 20 gig secondary HD wouldn't be enough storage space... but until now I was constantly juggling files just to keep my main drive at about 20% free, with my secondary drive completely full.

I'm burning a bunch of backups now. I've needed to reformat my main drive for a while. Thankfully now I can back things up so I can do so without losing everything.

i got one and i never use it. i wanted to make some conspiracy videos i got off the net into dvds. i couldnt convert the avi's to mpeg

Well with the piracy and all I have plenty of need to backup files.

Especially when I'm backing them up to a form of media that can be quickly and easily destroyed if need be by throwing them in the microwave.

90 gigs? Jesus.. go buy a 250gb drive. They're on sale for 50$ constantly.

Tempting, but I'd rather buy a new video card before I go out and invest in a new HD.

Then again, if I did that... I could just add it as yet another HD.

I could use the biggest as my XP drive, use the smallest as my 9x drive, and use the third just for backing up data.

Looks pretty damn nice, to me.

But I could get it for 5% above the retailer's cost.

I love having a relative that manages a PC store. :grin:

I've got a 40 gig main drive, 130 back up drive, and 200 gig external drive, and I'm all out of space. :sad:

I'm gonna pick up another drive here soon.

My 300 gig doesn't cut it anymore.. especially since now it's split in half between Ubuntu and windows :sad:
