Blank dvd media

For those of you who have dvd burners, how do I know if my blank dvd that I wanna buy is compatible with my dvd burner?

your burner is either -R or +R...if you're lucky it's - AND +

it should say on your drives hardware profile.

make sure you don't try to use a -R in a +R or a +R in a -R
unless the drive supports both...which most do these days.

I don't need any specific media though?

I was looking at some Ritek media, and it had certain dvdrw drives it works with.

only certain disks will burn movies for some reason, well at least on mine and my dads. i use the dynex dvd+r's.

you can only burn -rw if your burner does -rw. you can use whatever brand you like, so as long as it is right type of media (i.e. dvd-rw,dvd+r, whatever). actual brands are only relevent when considering quality of storage or just retail price.

In my experience Panasonics only play +R
xbox will not play +R
cheap ones like apex play anything.


I get memorex -r

http://www.videohelp.com for all your compatability questions. Generally its the consoles that are picky about disks and not the burners picky about disks. You can get a nice console that will play anything you throw at it tho.

Meritline.com supermediastore.com for good media deals.

i get the tdk or fuji dvd's, either + or -, as long as it's atleast 8x (so my burner will burn them at 12 or 16x). Also, i do not pay more than $20 for a 50 pack, so just wait untill thiere on sale somewhere and buy like 2 packs.

i dont like memorex, the 4x could only be burned at 4x, and the 8x could only be burned at 8x.
