burning dvds

can i burn avi files to a dvd and they will work in a regular player or do i have to convert them to something else

you have to convert them to dvd format..

convertxtodvd or imgtool are pretty good.

some players play divx files.. so you might be able to play .avi files in them without converting.. most of the new players will do it.

hey I know you have a mac from that other thread of yours
I did some research on this a while back and after a lot of trial and error with programs I found that roxio toast for mac is the best choice
does all the work for you
just select make a dvd, drop what ever file you have into it, insert dvd, and it converts + burns automatically

you can get it via torrent

After converting an .avi to a .vob, Do you then burn this as a data disc?
What about burning multiple .vob's to one disc?

If you just want to convert an AVI and burn it to DVD you can do it very easily with ConvertXtoDVD.

With that program all you have to do is click the "+" choose the AVI files you want on the DVD and then click Convert, it does all that and just asks for a blank DVD when it's ready to burn, then it even burns it for you.

There's some settings you can mess with if you want to change the menu screen the DVD opens with but even that isn't necessary.

this is kinda off topic,
but it is somewhat similiar to this,
and most people don't know about it.

google 'dvd shrink'
you can download it for free.

you can shrink any dvd down so you can
then burn it to a recordable dvd, and the audio/video
loss isn't even noticeable.
great for renting dvd's then copying
the ones that you like, etc.
