Hello from the middle of the Atlantic
    #6210081 -

Didn't get to spend much time in England so I can't really comment on it. But Spain was beautiful, and I actually got to use some of the Spanish I've been trying to learn. We're headed for the Caribbean now. We passed by the Azores around noon today and now its just pretty much open water until we reach St. Marten on Monday.

I'm doing my best to support the brewing industry. I have no idea how many beers I've had in the last 5 days but I'm sure I'm not gonna like it when I have to pay the bar tab! I hope Irijes doesn't get seasick. Her cruise left one day behind mine and theres been some really rough seas up here. I'm one of the fortunate few who never get any form of motion sickness but lots of people on board have been suffering. Last night we had a force 10 gale with wind gusts reaching 65 knots and the swells were at 25 feet! I was sitting in the dance club at around 3AM and was amazed to watch the spray hitting the windows clear up there. Its the hghest point on the ship so you are sitting probably 150 feet off the water. But even that high you would feel the ship hit a big swell and a few seconds later you would see this huge wall of spray come over the pool deck and slam into the windows of the club! It was pretty fucking cool! And with all the rocking everyone staggers around like they are hammered so you can't tell who has been drinking and who hasn't. One second you feel like you're about to float off the floor and the next you feel like you weigh 500 pounds. Its good fun, I must say!

Well, back to the bar for me. I don't want to let my seat get cold!

Peace

cruises are really fun.. my favorite was from alaska to vancouver. pretty much a real calm trip the whole way, since you're in a channel between islands and coast.

i have been on a couple in the atlantic, too.. 25 ft waves are pretty impressive. It doesn't really seem like they are *that* big when you first see them.. it's definately when you feel their power that you go, 'woah.' do you look out the side windows and watch the horizon go from above the top of the window line to below the bottom? that's a good way to get the perspective of just how much you really move on those big ass boats.

unfortunately, my gf doesn't like being on boats.. so, i probably won't get to do many more cruises.

yos-

Wow, those waves would scare the SHIT out of me!  I don't really get sea sick, but I'd still be terrified, convinced that the boat was gonna tip over or some shit   I hope you have an awesome time on the rest of your trip!!  Take some good pictures to show us.  Try to get some shots of the waves!  I'd really like to see that.

Just popping in to say I am still alive.  The seas are calm now and the air and water are warm.  The Caribbean is only about day away now.  But I might need to see if we can start a shroomery fund for my liver transplant when I get home. :smirk:

Not sure about the Shroomery Thanksgiving yet.  Not sure about much of anything to be honest.  I've killed far more brain cells then I've used this last week, and he trip is only about half over.

I don't have any pics of the rough seas since most of the worst was during the nighttime (and I've been to lazy to get the camera out much, to be honest).  But I've got pics of Spain, and I'll be taking a shitload this coming week in the Caribbean.  I'll post some when I get home.

Oh, and Brainiac, I am on the Legend of the Seas (Royal Caribbean cruise line).

Well, its afternoon here so its time to switch from bloody mary's to beer...back to the bar for me.

Hey Irijes, glad to see you made it home OK.  Hope you enjoyed your cruise as much as I did mine.  And you should be glad you didn't have really rough seas if you get motion sick!  I had a blast when it got rough but many people on our ship were suffering.  And I felt sorry for the crew that had to try to keep things going under those conditions.  The morning after the worst of the storm (we had the heaviest seas overnight) the casual restaurant/cafeteria area (not the formal dining room) looked like a bomb had gone off.  It is right at the front of the ship on one of the top decks and thats where the motion is felt the worst.  There were overturned tables and chairs everywhere and broken/scattered dishes all over the place.

It was pretty wild that night of the storm.  This ship isn't designed for rough seas.  Some ocean-liners have a deep draft which lets them cut through heavy seas easier, but many of your big cruise-liners these days are built with a broad, flat hull that lets them get into shallower ports.  And thats what our ship was like.  The night of the storm the whole bow of the ship was coming out of the water and slamming down on the next wave (I know this because the captain explained it to us in a question/answer session).  You could feel the whole ship shudder each time it slammed down.  And in the days that followed everyone was sharing their stories about getting bucked out of their beds while sleeping.  It definitely gave me some respect for the power of the ocean!

Anyway, I'm home now.  I'll share some pictures soon but for now I'm just glad to be going back to work tomorrow where I can get some rest!!
