Saddam's execution; horrible mistake.
    #6251409 -

I don't understand how people can be so happy that this man is going to be executed. Yes, this man is a criminal and deserves punishment. But, we are at war over there. Do you think executing a very influential Shiite Muslim is going to stifle the Iraqi insurgency as we hope to do? Moments after the sentencing was announced Shiite and Sunni Muslims took to the streets; one side in protest - the other in support. This execution will only further the divide between the the Muslim majorities in Iraq. This will especially enrage the Shiites who make up the bulk of the insurgency.

The coalition forces are trying to finish a job over there. This helps nothing. Before you get giddy and damn this guy to hell, look at the whole scope of things and understand that this is a mistake. Iraq is already at the brink of civil war. His execution only ensures the deaths of more American and coalition troops and most importantly Iraqi civilians.

Thank you for your magnificent insight into the situation.

To the original poster: I agree. They should have just given him life in prison to attempt to salvage some good-will between the ethnic groups.

Fuck Saddam, that evil bastard is getting what he deserves. As far as the situation goes, well Muslims make a big deal out of every damn thing,i.e. cartoons, you could have put Saddam if prison and the other side would riot because he isn't getting killed. In short neither side would be happy and there was always going to be someone rioting.

i dont think killing sadam is provocation, really. even many of the 'confused' people over there who might seem to be fighting on the wrong side know that saddam was a bastard and deserves to die.

I don't believe that is true. While many of the Shia terrorists won't be affected by this (for bad or good), it's just going to make an already terrible relationship between Shias and Sunnis ever worse.

Thinking about this in a purely emotional sense when you're not an Iraqi citizen won't do anything but make you look ignorant. There is more to this situation than "Saddam is bad so let's kill him".

By the way, Saddam is Sunni, not Shia. It was the Shia that were cheering after his verdict, and the Sunnis who were pissed off, remember?

So long as you are praised think only that you are not yet on your own path but on that of another.
