Why the National Polls are Wrong

Why the National Polls are Wrong

Here is some interesting insight on the GOP Voter Vault, or micro-targeting, recently revealed in the MSM, from the book One Party Country: The Republican Plan for Dominance in the 21st Century by Tom Hamburger and Peter Wallsten:

“The more scientific strategy has transformed the way political campaigns are fought, and it has put the Republicans in the lead. While the old-model campaign sought to educate voters about a candidate and his or her views, the new strategy almost completely reversed that approach. Instead of educating voters about Bush, Rove worked at educating himself and his staff about voters-and about how to target them with narrowly cast appeals. One could ask why it mattered if a handful of Jews in Cleveland or Latinos in Orlando or labor union members in West Virginia voted for Bush. The answer was the Republicans ability to send custom-tailored messages to relatively small numbers of voters inside Democratic precincts in swing states enabled them to slice away pieces of the enemy’s base. Each slice might seem inconsequential standing alone, but taken together the slices might add up to something very consequential. Moreover, because these once-Democratic swingers were trimmed away in so many carefully selected but disparate places-creating Bush blocs only where they were needed-the shift didn’t always register in national opinion polls, or on the radar of Democratic strategists. It was the political equivalent of stealth technology in airpower: Democrats would feel the bombs explode, but they would not see the bombers.”

This is why Bush and Rove can feel confident of a GOP victory on Election Day, despite national polls favoring Democrats. Nevertheless, liberals, of course, will blame voter fraud because of new electronic voting machines, given their ingrained paranoia of technology and fear of anything new.

The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ... We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ... In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons ... who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.

I had the RNC call my house up the other day, they saw me and my family in the past had voted for republican, Immediately they say " Did you know the democrats are planning to impeach GWB? Vote for republicans, I told them he should be impeached.

Americans and read my lips will not fall for Bush's sly and clever PR campaing and bullshit. We will vote the crooks out of office come this election, if not then we will face total tyranny.

as much as it pains me to say this..i am forced to agree that the fascists will win the upcoming election (but im not betting the farm on it either)...the democrats will prolly get more votes..but thats not the same as winning a majority of districts...and the fascists still have one more trump card ..the conviction of saddam hussein scheduled for nov 5..two days before the election...

OTOH..its not just liberals that are skeptical about diebold machines either (washington post)...and the one point on which i do disagree is that "technology and anything new" necessarily equates to fascist agenda...nevertheless..the machines..however fraudulent..are not so much to blame as ppl that chose to trust them...

people are concerned about electronic voting or voter fraud in general for good reason. a) exit polls have not matched official results b) diebold electronic voting machines are prone to error and are not particularly secure c) there is often little to no paper trail with electronic voting.

why keep your head in the sand?

It's not a fear of anything new. I have no problem with electronic voting, as long as there are paper trails to back it up in the case of suspected fraud. With no back-up, then how do we verify its truth? In "America: Freedom to Fascism", a man who had worked for government agencies and voting companies claimed there was a source code implemented in the machines to make the vote appear 51-49 in favor of the winner when he wasn't the winner at all. Not to say that this is necessarily true, as we should always take all claims with a mountain of salt, but since the electronic voting machine companies will not release their source code to the public, clearly we need paper trails to make sure nothing intentional or accidental has happened to change the actual votes.

well, if the Democrats are stealing votes like you claim, then maybe you should raise your voice instead of passing off criticism of our fraudulent voting system as just "ingrained paranoia of technology and fear of anything new." You should be critical - but you are not. Why is that?

This kind of talk reminds me of German euphoria near the end of WWII when whispers began of a "secret weapon".
Of course the weapon never materialized and they were crushed.

If Republicans possessed an ounce of self-honesty they would admit they have governed horribly making historic blunders along the way and heartily deserve the ass-whoopin' they are about to receive.

Bush: Thousands Of Registered Democrats Needed For 'Extremely Important' Mission

WASHINGTON, DC—In a televised address to the nation Monday, President Bush announced that the U.S. is in "desperate need of thousands of registered Democrats" to conduct what he called an "extremely important mission" to begin immediately and continue at least until the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

Bush lauded the "progressive American heroes" who he says will be vital in carrying out the mission.

"This mission is absolutely vital, for the next week to 10 days will determine the future of our country," said Bush, who would not reveal what the operation entailed, only to say that it was "highly classified."

"We are calling on the most stalwart Democrats in the land," Bush said. "In fact, they are the only ones capable of making it a success."

Although details were limited, an unnamed administration official revealed that, on Wednesday, November 1, registered Democrats will be asked to report to designated government rendezvous points such as post offices and military recruiting centers. Once there, they will be registered, fingerprinted, and issued one-piece jumpsuits, bedding, and canteens of drinking water, then directed to board brown school buses bound for an undisclosed location or locations.

"Certainly it will mean sacrifice, and possibly a prolonged absence from your families," Bush said. "We need at least 40,000 Democrats, but more are always welcome."

"Our very way of life depends on it," he added.

While Bush said any registered Democrat is eligible to participate, those who reside in Arizona's Fifth, Ohio's First, and Pennsylvania's Eighth Congressional Districts are most needed to ensure the mission's success. Democrats from New Jersey, Missouri, Tennessee, and "especially Virginia" were also strongly encouraged to volunteer.

Bush also called on the 64 percent of citizens upset with the handling of the situation in Iraq, the 80 percent who think Congress is doing a poor job, and the 63 percent who disapprove of his own job performance as "supremely qualified for the special task."

Bush added that the same liberal voters with whom his administration has traditionally been at odds would be "warmly welcomed and fully accommodated." Bush appealed to Democrats' "noble hearts," describing his traditional political foes as "a breed apart—passionate, dedicated Americans who can really make a difference."

"Staunch supporters of abortion rights, reduced dependence on foreign oil, gay marriage, and a national system of health care: We need you now more than ever," Bush said. "Registered Democrats in Michigan and Georgia who believe that the federal minimum wage needs to be increased and that global warming is being inadequately addressed are perfectly suited for such a selfless venture."

Bush's announcement drew an enthusiastic reaction from a Republican Congress dispirited by a series of scandals and criticism over its lackluster legislative performance.

"Despite our differences, I know the Democrats of my home state are the kinds of folks the president is talking about—strong, devoted, caring people who support stem-cell research and stronger gun laws."

Acknowledging the "tough times and hardship" endured by soldiers stationed in Iraq, Bush also announced plans to give the entire military the day off on Nov. 7 so they can take some time to "relax, reflect, and vote."
