Upgrading Net Speed Question
    #6183811 -

I currently have 1.5 mbps/896 Kbps, and I can get 7 mbps/896 Kbps for $10 more a month. A.) Is it worth it? B.)Would I have to get a new modem?

Thanks for the help!

Imagine everything you do online loading 5 times quicker, reducing a one minute load to a mere 12 seconds.

You'll get this at $0.33 a day.

If you look at it like this, does it seem worthwhile? If you like media, it very well can be. If your online time is precious, it can be worthwhile. If the main course is the Shroomery, 1.5 mbps is just right and you can use the $10 for a Warcraft subscription instead

If you're on a modern cable modem, the company can upgrade your modem by sending some data to your modem directly, so in that case your current modem will be fine.

See, that is what I was thinking. Kick everything in the ass and get some better download times when I sporadically download some musikk or transfer some with friends.

I'm able to absorb the extra $10 by cutting my long distance from $20 a month unlimited to $5 a month and $0.05 a minute. I wasn't able to get the exact average of my long distance minutes each month, but I know that I'm not using 300 minutes a month, the price of which, included with the $5 a month charge for the service, would be the same as I'm paying now. I couldn't see myself spending more than one hour a month on long distance, for the most part.

Either way, its only $10 a month, and I can always change back to unlimited with the click of a mouse.

the faster my connection, the slower pages load it seems... my computers are gettin old and all, but websites dont load like they used to.. my downloads are pretty quick though... i download a bunch, so the 6 down is cool... plus it ony cost me $25 for cable/internet... thru roomates and whatnot...

it wont make the shroomery load any faster

i'm starting to think that the cable company is slowing down my internet just so i'll upgrade it. the reason i say that is because my internet started slowing down and kicking me offline as soon as they called and asked me. Conspiracy?
