Well when someone has audio they want to share, an external link is provided (I hope external link is the correct computer lingo, I'm a moron with computers) and it kinda ruins how funny it could be if you just clicked on the post and it started playing. Not to mention half of those links don't work.

Theme music would set the mood for the post and would be a much, much easier way to share music on the shroomery. I really enjoy the music taste of a lot of shroomers and this is a great way to expand EVERYONES taste. Many people exclude one type of music but there are good songs of every type of genera, this could be a great way to turn more people on to more types of music.

Not to mention how funny a post could be with the proper music, pictures and text. It would make many people show off those links to others.

Sounds like MySpace. It would definitely set the mood for a post but I think you'll find that people are generally averse to the idea of music autoplaying when they open a thread. There would also be concerns about copyright infringement - I'm guessing not everyone would secure the legal rights to the tracks they upload, this has certainly been the case with attachments. And while we lack the manpower or expertise to download and verify the legality of every attachment, if a song started playing the moment a thread was opened, it would be impossible to ignore. My suggestion would be, if you want to autoplay a song, find a legal source for it online (like MySpace), view the source, and embed the flash player like so:

What about those who have a play list of their favorite songs that they want to listen to while browsing? I had something playing when I opened this thread and heard the horror of two songs playing over top of each other :crazy:

In my previous post I explained why I don't think it's practical. And personally I also don't think it's desirable. It'd drive me insane if random songs kept starting and stopping every time I opened a thread. Not to mention the bandwidth issues, for us and our users. I'll keep an open mind on the matter but I don't think you'll find a lot of support for this idea.

autoplay is EVIL! i hate things that autoplay...

it could be nice if you could make a thread "theme song" but i bet the amount of work you'd need to put into it (in order to make it a non obtrusive feature, and of course IF you can allow the bandwidth for it) wouldn't be worth it in the near future.

there are more important things to improve (2shroomery forum *nudge*nudge, although that too will probably take a while to do correctly)

i'll say this once again if this should ever be considered, NO AUTOPLAY please!
