Sienna Miller apologizes to Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH -Sienna Miller, who disparaged Pittsburgh in a magazine interview, apologized on Friday, saying her remarks were taken out of context and that she found the city and residents gracious.

The 24-year-old British actress, in town shooting the screen adaptation of Michael Chabon's novel "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh," called the city a name that sounds like Pittsburgh, but contains an expletive. Her comments appear in the latest edition of Rolling Stone, which hit newsstands Friday.

Miller, who starred in "Layer Cake," "Casanova" and the remake of "Alfie," told Rolling Stone, "Can you believe this is my life? Will you pity me when you're back in your funky New York apartment and I'm still in Pittsburgh? I need to get more glamorous films and stop with my indie year."

She disses Pittsburgh and then she tries to weasel out of it by giving some lame and probably completely fake apology?  I am really protective of my city.  I can feel the bile rise up in my stomach when somebody says stuff like this.  Us Yinzer's don't like it one bit.

The article goes on to say:


In 2003, the nationally syndicated cartoon "Get Fuzzy" lampooned Pittsburgh as a tourist destination; Bucky Katt asks a travel agent if she has "any packaged trips based primarily on smell" and she gives him information on Pittsburgh. The strip's creator, Darby Conley, said he received 300 to 400 e-mails, including death threats and hate mail.

Granted, any urban area where you have a bunch of people, cars, and businesses will smell...but Pittsburgh does not smell bad at all.  You want a bad smelling city?  Go to Paris where you smell B.O. and urine everywhere.  Go to Venice where they dump the sewage right into the water and it reeks in hot weather.  Go to New York City where you are overwhelmed by the air pollution and smells of garbage.  I've been to all of those cities and I would never live in any of them.  I gladly call Da' Burgh my home.

All my friends from there went off to college and scattered across the nation. I will give Pittsburgh one thing though, I met a lot of friends really fast in the 3 years I lived there.

I was born in Pittsburgh and I've lived there off-n-on, but I have to say she's right. Pittsburgh has practically nothing interesting to do, it's dirty and really run-down looking, and finding an attractive woman there is like finding leftovers in Ethiopia.

I truly loved my apartment there when I was going to the Art Institute. It was on Mt. Washington right next to the Grandview Park. Very convenient and quite cheap. There's a special place in my heart for Pittsburgh, but I admit its faults.

What about all of the museums (all three Carnegie Museums, The Warhol, etc..)?  The Cultural District?  The Southside?  Every week I look in the City Paper and I see stuff going on every night that I would like to go do.

I know some people who went to the Art Institute (we might know some of the same people).  I live in Shadyside with all of the preppy people.  :tongue:

I don't think so. For a city of its size Pittsburgh has a very low crime rate. Of course there are bad areas where people deal drugs and get shot (like any major city). I've never been a victim of crime here, but I have almost been jumped by black dudes several times.
