Beer for Hangover Poll?

Well, Ive always heard that the way to cure a hangover to drink a little the next day. I more of a :bigweed: guy, but i still drink at least once a week.  Sometimes i close the bars 3-4 times a week for a few weeks, sometimes i go a month without a drink. 

i rarely get hangovers, and even more rare are the drag-ass-next-day hangovers.  Where you can't really function on a real level.

Can you cure this feeling with another drink?  Is it 'sip of the dog that bit you?' or something like that?

I have never tried, because i never felt like drinking another drink.

Drinking what I drank the night before for a bad hangover normally just leads to more puking,then again I never really get hangovers unless I end up pukin drunk.


P.S. Black out B-days are the best!

Yeah it works. This drink works very well. Drain a Gatoraid as well and you're good to go.




1 oz vodka
1/2 glass tomato juice
1/2 glass beef bouillon
1 slice lime
1 lemon wedge


Pour vodka, tomato juice, and beef bouillon over ice in a highball glass and stir. Add the slice of lime and the wedge of lemon and serve.

yep, it actually does kinda work. it usually cures my headache, and gets all the alcohol in me flowing again - resulting in a morning stupor that's great for going to breakfast. :laugh:

Although if you know your limit and you hydrate yourself with water before going to sleep you shouldnt have to deal with a hangover.

Oh yeah I forgot to address that you have to eat as well. Have no more than one or two drinks or it will just result in being shit-faced for the entire day. Eating makes the hangover less likely to occur/less painful once you get moving during the day.

Steak and eggs, and a screwdriver - my cure of choice. :hitlerdance:

There is no scientific basis for it working, though enough beer may numb you from feeling the hang over symptoms. :wink:


The hang over is the result of to many toxins in our system that the liver couldn't keep up with. The best bet is to drink a ton of water before you go to bed after drinking to help dilute the alcohol so the liver can keep up better and to help flush it all out of your system faster. Drinking lots of water the next day is key as well.

That all is, if you can hold it down.:lol: Enough said for the purpose of the thread. :thumbup:


The following may be too much information for the pub and this post but some might find it interesting.


Long ago, I had to get college certified to tend bar in a this one county outside of Chicago. MADD got that law passed on the basis that alcohol works just like the anesthetic they use in hospitals, to put us under for surgery with. They argued that it didn't make sense that Anesthesiologists have to college and get a degree to administer it but anyone can serve alcohol(same thing) in a bar.

It freaked me out to look at it that way.

First the fine motor skills get shut down and thats when we start feeling inhibitions drop away and get more relaxed and giggly.

Then the gross motor skills start to go and that's when we get clumsy, can't walk straight and start to slur.

Next, we either start puking to rid ourselves of the toxins and or go unconscious (Thats as far as hospital anesthetic takes us though they try to keep it just shy of making us puke, but enough to make us go unconscious)

If we drink to much to fast and over flood the system, the portion of the brain that regulates heart beat and the lungs shuts down next and last and that's how people die of alcohol poisoning.

That's the gist of what I remember from it. Fortunately most people pass out before they can drink anymore to get that far into the stages and or puke most of it out first.

The average adult liver can process either 1 oz. of liqueur, one 12 oz. beer, or one 6 oz. glass of wine an hour. Any more then that and the blood poisoning starts to kick in and a hang over is the symptoms of that until it's all flushed out.

A larger body weight and or food in the stomach will let you get away with a tad more then that, and a smaller body weight and empty stomach will process less quickly then that.

We were taught that drinking at that pace shouldbe able to keep the person under the legal driving limit if they ever have to take a Breathalyzer test.

Wrong, it is a result of alcohol dehydrating your cells causing the common side effects of: desperatley craving water, and a furry mouth in the morning. And if your liver couldnt keep up with the drinking you usually wake up intoxicated.

If you are a pansy and get a hangover from three or four drinks then this might be a good idea, but if you get black-out drunk like we were talking about you will probably end up laying in your own urine.

I am skinny and have low body fat, and I seem to get by.

I didn't want to get over into it and explain that the toxins cause the dehydration. If your liver kept up with them, they wouldn't be there to cause the dehydration. Thanks for adding to it. :wink:Some people do wake up still intoxicated.

Yes, that could happen if bladder control function gets shut down. Thats serious drinking if it does.

What does that have to do with anything? :wtf: I dont use drugs nor take prescritptions.  I just said that because I noticed in other posts in the pub that people prefer shorter chit chat ones here because many do have ADD and hate posts more then a few lines. Noooo, you need to read better or take some more adderral. :wink: That comment was related to being able to pass the legal driving limit on a breathalyzer, not getting drunk or hungover. :rolleyes:

Of course people can drink more and appear, feel and act sober when they build up a tolerance to alcohol. AGAIN, that comment was related to how you would pass a breathalyzer test. It measures blood alcohol levels, not tolerance to alcohol levels.

Good advice. :thumbup: I mentioned that to let people know that if they had more then those amounts in those time frames, even though they may feel fine and able to drive safe, they would still blow a breathalyzer and its not worth it.

When I was talking about adderall I wasn't trying to be rude, If anything I meant it as a compliment - Since you don't take drugs I'll enlighten you to it's effects. It makes you really focused and intent on whatever task you have at hand. I said "are you on adderall or something" because you had a comprehensive post.

But when you talk about being legally intoxicated to drive, that also is different from state to state.

It's cool :cool: and thanks for adding more info to it. And thanks for explaining about what the adderral does. Most of my posts are longer which is why I don't post in here often.:lol:  I know people come here for short casual chit chat and what I added probably belongs in the health forum.

I took that course 15 years ago and had I never, I wouldn't have come to know that stuff otherwise and just wanted to pass the info along where it might be of interest or do some good.

Or fumble with your keys at the front door for 3 minutes until your roommates wake up and open the door for you. It was a semi-blackout. I cant remember anything at the bar after standing at the jukebox and having my 3 151 shot (i wasn't buying that shit) it gets realllllly fuzzy after that.

I understand how to prevent a hangover, water, fatty foods, etc. I had all these things ready for when i got home, but i was in no shape to do any of this. The last thing i remember is thinking to myself, i should give up,(with the keys & door) and just sit down for a minute.
