Papaver got my inside tips?

Here's some of my favorites, off the top of my head, in no particular order; lot's of foreign films and oldies; please excuse any misspellings, and in most cases, I'm referring to the original if there's been a remake. I'm sure there are many omissions... If I remember something important, I'll try and remember to post it...

La Strada (Fellini)
La Dolce Vita (Fellini)
8 1/5 (Fellini)
Giulietta degli spiriti (aka Juliet of the Spirits) (Fellini)
Le Notti di Cabiria (aka Nights of Cabiria) (Fellini)
The Seventh Seal (Bergman)
Wild Strawberries
Natural Born Killers
Midnight Cowboy
Network
Rear Window
Chinatown
Third Man
Treasure of the Sierra Madre
To Have and Have Not
Only Angels Have Wings
Gunga Din
Lord Jim
Laurence of Arabia
Rashomon
Yojimbo
Touch of Evil
Citizen Kane
Bladerunner
Elephant Man
Lost Highway
Cool Hand Luke
Hud
The Hustler
Pink Panther (original)
A Shot in the Dark
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
A Night at the Opera (pretty much anything by the Marx Bros.)
Annie Hall
Sleeper
Stardust Memories
Shadows and Fog
The Grand Illusion (Renoir)
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (silent, a classic introduction to german expressionism)
Nosferatu (silent)
M
Grapes of Wrath
Under the Volcano
The Big Lebowski
Twelve Monkeys
Ed Wood
The Outsiders (A Band Apart) (Jean Luc Goddard)
Breathless (original Jean Luc Goddard)
The Manchurian Candidate (original)
On the Waterfront
A Face in the Crowd
Baby Doll
Bringing Up Baby
In the Heat of the Night
Brother John
Lilies in the Field
12 Angry Men
Lost Weekend
Days of Wine and Roses
Ashes and Diamonds
Double Indemnity
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Sunset Blvd.
The Marriage of Maria Braun
The Maltese Falcon
Lolita (original by Kubrik)
A Clockwork Orange
Pepe le Moko (Good to compare with the American remake, "Algiers")
Casablanca
White Heat

PS: There is a lot of stuff from the thirties, which I am sadly forgetting; I think my mind is so saturated with 30s' films right now, that I'm having trouble focussing on many...

Edit - Notable Omissions:

The Ruling Class
Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf
Night of the Iguana
They Might Be Giants
The Apartment

Edit 2:
Damn, I forgot "Charade!" The most Hitchcockian film, that Hitchcock never made. And while we're on that subject...
"Vertigo"
"North by Northwest"
I already mentioned "Rear Window," my personal favorite...

As for Mel Brooks, "Blazing Saddles," "Young Frankenstein," and the "Producers" are my favorites. His homage to Hitchcock, "High Anxiety," didn't do it for me...

And pretty much any of the "Thin Man" films with William Powell, Myna Loy, and their dog, Asta. I have a real soft spot for that crime-solving couple and their crazy canine.

Nice lists!
Thank you.

Papaver...

I watched Hoodwinked yesterday at work.
It's a modern, digi-animation take on the little red riding hood fairy tale.
Really clever and mildly funny stuff.
When it gets busy on fridays and saturdays, I have concert DVDs I can bring from home.
If I can't pay attention to a plot line, then I might as well have some music flowing from the speaker.  :headbang:

I have over 350 DVDs in my collection now, and they really run the gamut; from expensive Criterion Collection restored foreign classics, to cheesy American International B-movie "biker flicks" from the sixties, and to stuff that's just absolute junk, but it was cheap at the pawn-shop. I really love movies.

I just found out that the distributor, Janus, is releasing a boxed set of 50 of their classic foreign films for $699.00, but I have mixed feelings on this, as I already own a number of the films in this collection, and it's a fuck of a lot of money to spend on low-def, with hi-def on the horizon. Hence, I think I'll wait on that one...

Unfortunately, this coming Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD format battle is going to make my life very complicated in the next few years, as I start to upgrade into hi-def. I'm hoping that Blu-Ray will dominate, as it has higher storage, and the PS3 is going to play Blu-Ray discs -- I've been using my second generation PS2 as my main DVD player for the last two years, and it's the been best DVD player I've ever owned (very few skips or dropouts; and it plays damn near every disc I cram into its gaping maw).

Oh, any concert DVD. Especially Led Zeppelin. And Pink Floyd's The Wall. Two stoner/tripper must-haves. And if they have Da Ali G show episodes, just steal those, because they are hilarious. And any Hayao Miyazaki movie, like Princess Mononke or Howls Moving Castle.
